Life & Work with Cathy Balanoff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathy Balanoff.

Hi Cathy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved getting creative. It’s a huge part of what brings me calm and joy. I think it’s so important for so many people to find that part of themselves. I wanted a place in the community where kids and adults can come and have all the tools needed to explore their creativity.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was quite a bumpy road getting here! We had really bad luck with a contractor so that set us back with timing and finances. When we were finally ready to open, it was during the pandemic. Fortunately, we had a great experience once we opened our doors and we are thriving!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My art studio is a place where people come in and get to make projects with the inspiration of our samples or come up with their designs. We have a Jackson Pollock-inspired Splatter Room where people of all ages can come for some messy and fun art. We are different from other art studios because we have so many projects to choose from and no one has to do the same thing!

I also am a first-grade teacher which I also absolutely love. I am so proud to be a teacher and work with amazing kids as well as my teacher friends that are just some of the most wonderful people I know. It makes me proud and honored that I can work hard enough to pursue both of my dreams.

What’s next?
Right now I am working on growing my business. We are only two years old so we are still and trying to get the word out on who we are and what we do. I would love to have the business allow me to get out into the community and share creativity with people that may not have the means. It’s an idea that I always have in my thoughts.
