Today we’d like to introduce you to Andreina Cruz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I owe my start to my mother, who took me to work with her when I was a kid. Her job was creating edible art through her cakes. I visited all types of events with her. Each one was different than the next. The more I saw, the more I fell in love with all the details. I remember being ten years old excited to see what color linen they would use or what tiny detail would draw you further into the whole experience. I also fell in love with reading and writing at a young age. I remember thinking how cool words were because everyone can read the same story and have a completely different mental image in their head. I mean is there anything better than your own imagination?
So I entered the world of Hospitality, and with a decade of on the job training under my belt, I ventured off on my own to apply all I have learned. By combining my two passions, I have been able to create personalized arrays for my clients. Simply by listening to them and their story. My goal is to provide a poetic experience with details that touch the heart.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any artist will tell you, sometimes you can explain your vision ten different ways and you still won’t be understood. We all have our own way of expressing ourselves. I think regardless of what medium you use, you are opening yourself up to judgment and criticism, whether it be constructive or not. Most of my career, I’ve worked in the logistics of events and marketing. My attitude has always been “If I don’t know how to do it, then I will learn it, even if will take twice as long as someone else.” So while I learn and collect invaluable skills to help my business thrive, my biggest obstacle has been learning to adapt and roll with the punches. Breaking free of the comparison trap has allowed me to work with other creatives alike and in turn, we help one another grow.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
A long time ago, I fell in love with the stroke of a pen. Filing up journals before the age of ten.
But making a living ain’t easy as a writer.
I had to expand my audience, make it wider.
So here I am, expressing myself through sunny days.
Here I am, to share beyond just more arrays.
Follow me if you’re ready to fall in love with romance.
Follow me if you’re willing to give it a chance.
I’m here to offer tablescape beauty –
But I feel transparency is my real duty.
See art has always come so naturally to me…
When I close my eyes, it’s colors I see.
But empathy I’ve learned as a mother and wife, now I’m here to bring YOUR story to life.
So that’s why they call me the Tiny Picnic poet.
And if you don’t know, now you know it. 😉
A little rhyming tidbit for your reading pleasure. I’m here to help reshape the way we interact in the art community. I want to be your professional best friend by allowing my personality to shine through my work and my process. I welcome my clients and colleagues to be themselves, share their ideas, and together we can create magic.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I feel this is a loaded question. I do consider myself to be a risk taker and a thrill seeker. I remember when I turned 18, one of the first things I did was Sky Dive. Jumping out of plane? No problem! Opening up my creative mind for hire?…. no way! Too scary. But that was a decade ago. It’s no secret that wisdom comes with age. So while I’ve pursued many adrenaline inducing adventures ever since, starting The Tiny Picnic has been my biggest risk. In sharing my honest and personal views through my artistic business, I have found that being vulnerable has been the best chance I ever took.
