Life & Work with Medgine Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Medgine Williams.

Hi Medgine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My style story begins as a Haitian girl from Queens, New York. I believe that where I’m from and my nationality, creatively birthed my sense of style. I grew up in Queens with six vibrant, loud, beautiful aunts, including my beautiful stylish mother. Her style always seem so effortless. They were and still are fashionistas. My dad on the other hand is the smoothest guy around, he always wore his collar up and carried a man purse before it was cool. I always attribute my sense of style to the bloodline; they were my first introduction to fashion. My personality is a lot like my style, you either love it or hate it. I am very outspoken, opinionated, and an old soul. I’m complicated and have many layers, just like my style. Like any great love affair, my journey with fashion has been a lifetime of highs and lows. GOD started to whisper and my soul began to listen and speak it into existence. I found myself needing to take action, the journey has been a struggle, but without God, and the support of my friends and family, I would’ve called it quits a long time ago. The beauty in finding your purpose is that there is no greater feeling. Your purpose begins to navigate the car, and you are no longer lost, or searching. Trust the process.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes. the struggle is every day. The moment you decide to follow your passion and really go for it, that’s when the setbacks really begin. But it’s all a test My biggest struggle was getting out of my own way, and believing in my inner voice, and knowing GOD’s got this. You’re on this path for reason, just listen.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Being a fashion stylist is such an honor, and can be very personal. Your job is to shape and guide someone, into a representation of themselves based on clothes. So although fashion can seem superficial and vain. It is not. Fashion is self-expression, you tell a story every time you wear something, my job is to remind my clients of this. So I would say I specialize in making someone who feels average, feel extraordinary, just by letting them see themselves through another lens. Because I consider myself a creative, I believe in the idea of telling a story. I want my client to feel like they had an experience, which transformed them, I believe that’s what sets me apart., I also love thrifting, and making things that seem old, feel trendy, and new.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My hunger. Without it I become content and stagnant.
