Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Golden.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Chicago, Il. I was raised in my Mother’s Dance studio. Dance was my life. I stumbled upon yoga around 18 years old and that really planted the seed for my life path.
I began modeling for a living around this same time. I had a difficult time with the emptiness and superficial aspects of the industry and although I was making a great living doing it, I didn’t fully embrace it until I became a Mother.
I was lucky to have done pregnancy modeling and continue to work with my son after. I really felt like the epitome of health. I have always been very health conscious, far beyond my years. I first became a vegetarian at age 11, gave birth to my son naturally at home and had been an avid yogi since 18.
To my surprise, at 29 years young, my body began to have debilitating symptoms and after being misdiagnosed for months I was finally given the disheartening diagnosis that I had rheumatoid arthritis.
This began my healing journey from western to eastern medicine and spirituality and self-discovery.
At my worst, I was under 100 lbs. and unable to walk or care for myself or my son. Through unwavering dedication to my healing, I was able to have a complete recovery.
Being somewhat in the public eye at the time, I began receiving messages from desperate people going through similar health struggles. Not having the ability to answer all the emails and calls I received from people asking for help, I started The Golden Secrets blog to share the tools and tips that I had acquired, both from my journey back to health and through my life experiences.
That blog organically turned into a book, The Golden Secrets to Optimal Health, my skincare line, The Golden Secrets as well as my latest project, my show, and podcast.
I believe that every challenge we encounter is an opportunity for us to create more light for ourselves and for our world. The Golden Secrets is about health, beauty, fitness, parenting, spirituality, environmentalism, elevating consciousness, and empowering you to find your own path to fulfillment and optimal wellness.
I choose to thrive despite my diagnosis or any circumstance.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think anybody has a smooth road. I believe those bumpy roads are opportunities to evolve and grow and are often just the spark we need to get us going.
The bad times, the fear, is all fuel to progress you in the right direction.
I think sometimes people look at me and think, she has it all. They think that because I choose not to be a victim and share my life in a positive way. Nothing in my life has been perfect and every circumstance has had an opportunity to crack me or build me. I always choose to think about what can I learn from this, how can I use this. Instead of why is this happening to me.
Our mindset, our inner guidance is the only thing that we do have. The lessons of life will never end but we do have the power to decide how we respond to it.
Please tell us about The Golden Secrets.
I grew up as a ballerina and then transitioned into yoga. I am a certified hatha yoga teacher and a Holistic Health Practitioner.
I am most proud of starting my company when I had no idea about the business. I continue to run it solely and that means hand making all the products and everything a business entails behind the scenes.
The intention behind my company is what sets us apart. Every product comes with a positive affirmation card to recite while applying to further enhance its benefits.
The product becomes your daily anchor to tune in with yourself and program your thought patterns to a positive way of being.
The Golden secrets is a holistic, high vibrational, handmade skincare and wellness line with intention. It is 100% female owned and we give back 1% of our revenue to charity.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I was raised by a strong, single female who owned and operated her own successful dance studio for over 40 plus years so I never fell into the idea that there were any barriers for females.
I actually thought the contrary, that women can do anything. I love that this is the way the movement of the world is going. we need the feminine energy more in leadership roles to help balance all of us. I believe that we are all in this together. I want all of us to make it!
