Today we’d like to introduce you to Delania Alma.
Delania, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I recall my passion for art as early as 12 years old. One of my early pieces was submitted to an art contest that won and was displayed in the Bronx Museum of Art in New York City. Since very little, I always painted but only chose to minor in art and continue my education by obtaining degrees in Psychology and Nursing (specializing in pediatrics). My art at one moment became more for myself until people found out that I spent majority of my free time creating. I later realized I could combine all the things that inspired me, reflect my different point of views through my art and share it with the world!
I now find myself between two cities, Miami and New York. Born and raised in New York City by Dominican parents and residing in Miami. I remain bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish. I also continue expressing myself through different mediums and taking on a variety of projects as a contemporary artist.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like many people it hasn’t been a smooth road but yet I find it’s a necessary one. Choices and events occur to shape and prepare you for the challenges of tomorrow. Everything I chose such as studying psychology or working with children is what today inspires me to create and reach out to people through my art.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Delania Alma – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My art can be found in TV series such as Blue Bloods, art murals in Brickell, Miami and NYC, different NY restaurants and major children’s hospitals in New York and Miami.
I am most proud that everything I am today has come to be a reflection in my art. I always say one painting gives birth to another as they are all somehow related. My work varies from abstract, contemporary, to surrealism. Mainly influenced by the many things that surround me: children, dreams, music, self-motivation, and life struggles. My paintings are full of saturated colors and layers of emotions that reference the subliminal stories that inspire me. These are the things that have allowed me to paint “del alma,” which in Spanish means “from the soul.”
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
My advice to young women is to never stop dreaming. Clearly remember dreams start with focused actions and dedication. I was lucky to be surrounded by nurturing and supportive generations of women. Observing their struggles taught me about perseverance and self-motivation. Educate and love yourself as much as possible, this is the real foundation of becoming an empowered woman.
