Hi Tyra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I started my brand Moneta Apparel by Tyra Jana’e, because I have always had an interest and desire for street fashion. The name “Moneta”, pronounced MOE-NET-TAH, is an epithet from the name of two goddesses and retained the meanings of “money” in the Middle Ages. It also symbolizes my love for MONEY. I am self-taught in everything I do when it comes to running my business. I have a large support system full of friends, family, and a lot of people I don’t know.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely NOT a smooth road. There were many struggles along the way, still some now and many more to come. Some struggles I faced were feeling discouraged. When being in charge of something a lot of times you want everything to be perfect but truth is nothing is going to be 100% perfect all the time and in order to find out you have to take that extra mile or you’ll never know. Another struggle I faced was growing my brand and making the sales I wanted. It’s hard trying to be appealing to everyone and I had to learn that it’s okay to not be appealing to everyone and if that was the case everyone would be the same. Finally developing my brand identity and being able to present that to my audience gave me that “ ah-ha ! “moment when I was trying to draw a conclusion to why sales weren’t coming in, and why my ads weren’t working etc …

We are Moneta Apparel! Moneta Apparel is a BLACK OWNED; Florida based company that was founded by its owner Tyra Jana’e in 2020. Here, we aim to provide the flyest looks on the best fabrics so you LOOK and FEEL like money!
I am most proud that my brand is constantly growing. There were many times when I thought I couldn’t do it was scared to do something and still did it. Every day I thank myself for taking those big steps because without all of the trial and errors I wouldn’t be where am I today.
