Inspiring Conversations with Rebecca Gosik of Barstool Social

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Gosik.

Hi Rebecca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I moved to Fort Lauderdale after a divorce and I didn’t know anybody but I wanted to learn more about the city and be more social. Yet, I wanted to do it most affordably.

After spending too much time down the social media rabbit hole of finding happy hours, I decided an app needed to be developed with all of the area offerings in one spot. Having an entrepreneur side, I dived right in and started it myself. It has been a very fulfilling, passionate project that has helped me plus so many others!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I know nothing about app development or coding. So the first company I hired to host my app was a total waste of time and money because it rarely ever worked properly enough for me to promote it for an entire year.

So I had to find a more reputable company and rebuild my app with them. There are still hiccups from time to time but I’m learning a little more every day. It’s been very costly but I’m hoping to earn my investment back.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I help Fort Lauderdale businesses get their happy hours & events to locals and tourists. This is possible through a directory-style mobile app that lists daily specials, brunch deals, BYOB restaurants, karaoke, trivia and so much more!

I love to help people and that’s a big part of why I came up with the Barstool Social app idea. I have had so many people reach out and thank me for helping them save money or find new places to go in the area.

I have been in the hospitality industry for 20 years so I love to be able to help both the business and the consumer in a new way. The app is free for everyone involved unless a business wants to be featured to stick out from the rest of the listings.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is happiness and having a purpose. I could never live a life where I’m not providing for myself or others. It makes me happy to have my accomplishments and even happier if those accomplishments allow me to give more to my loved ones.
