Today we’d like to introduce you to Philip Bixby.
Hi Philip, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started singing in weddings in high school for friends and family through the years, when I joined a wedding band in Miami, it just seemed natural for me to perform for private events!
I’ve been writing and recording music as an independent artist and started my own entertainment company Good Musicians in South Florida serving Palm Beach through the Florida Keys.
We started out performing for restaurants, cocktail hours, and small ceremonies and now we are traveling nationwide with bands and DJs designing exclusive entertainment for luxury weddings and corporate events.
Performing at weddings and events in South Florida is really a pleasure because people come here to celebrate and get away from the mundane. We’re not just selling a band for a party, we’re infusing joy into people’s lives through music and creating uplifting frequencies every time we perform!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not always easy starting your own company. Everything falls on you. I’ve made plenty of mistakes and every investment doesn’t always yield the outcome desired or an immediate return. The main thing for me has been to always keep improving. The pandemic was definitely a tough time for many small businesses, but luckily for us, we have had wonderful people to partner with like all of the amazing planners we have met over the years that know our work and recommend us to new potential clients!
We love events but the nuance of this business is knowing how to stay organized but at the same time stay flexible.
Our job is literally to celebrate with people during their most treasured moments in life! That’s why we design unique entertainment by tailoring our setlists, customizing our bands, and going above and beyond with our production to ensure each couple and/or company receives a VIP experience.
Now that events are back and the wedding season is in full swing, we are hiring more musicians, DJs, artists, and team members to facilitate the growing demand.
As you know, we’re big fans of Good Musicians. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are an entertainment company that is “artist first”. It’s sort of a paradigm shift for the service industry. We believe entertainment should actually sound good and that happens when the artists are equipped with the tools they need for an outstanding performance. We never leave our musicians out to dry by contracting them for a gig without first giving them all the details up front as best we can and working hard to prepare the music before an event.
We are composed of Grammy and Emmy award-winning musicians, some with bachelor’s, master’s, and/or doctorate-level degrees in music. Our vocalists are major label or independent artists and have their own blossoming careers. They have competed on NBC’s “The Voice”, “American Song Contest”, “The Four”, among other national television shows and singing competitions.
We produce full-service entertainment for weddings and corporate events. Live bands, hybrid bands, DJs and MCs, and specialty musicians for cocktail hours and intimate settings.
We’re not just a corporation, we’re a collective of elite artists and musicians that make a living from performing, recording, and teaching music full-time. Our fresh approach to entertainment is about bringing something different to the table. We’re not just the same one band with the same old setlist every event. We curate each setlist for each event down to the DJ sets and really believe the music impacts every aspect of every room we enter. We learn new material constantly, compose original arrangements, think outside the box, and value flexibility at events because the most important thing is keeping people on the dance floor having a good time, not just playing OUR favorite songs.
Entertainment is always better when it’s customized. Many people are looking for a myriad of genres at private events, or they have a specific theme, and that’s why having a versatile team with the ability to read the room and answer questions before they’re asked is vital. Music can vastly impact any atmosphere or event space, so it’s important to include music as a part of the event design from the very beginning, not just as a finishing touch.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
We love South Florida! It’s a year-round season, and people really sleep on the music scene here. There’s world-class musicians and DJs from Miami to Palm Beach and we believe we have the best team in the world.
We’re also based in Colorado, the Carolinas, and California, but we can’t wait to bring the non-stop party and the sound of Miami to the rest of the world.
