Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt LeBris. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Matt LeBris is a born and raised NY’er who inevitably caught the hustler’s spirit that fills his hometown streets. Through the numerous peaks and valleys that Matt has endured on his journey, all events have led to him discovering who he truly is at his core essence. To build points of resonation, we’re talking about failing out of college, watching his mother battle cancer, seeing his dreams crumble due to injury — the list goes on. But, on the flip side, he’s been able to battle through the adversity to host a top 1% globally ranked podcast, work with Daymond John of Shark Tank, and so much more. At the end of the day, the journey led him to find ways to continue to remove the layers that society, culture, and upbringing may have put on top of who Matt truly is. Although that journey isn’t over yet, he’s now connected to himself on a deeper level than ever before and is in pursuit of helping others do the same through his work.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been far from a smooth road for Matt, but if you’re asking him, there isn’t a part of his journey that he would change. Everything has happened for a reason exactly when it’s needed to happen. It’s not something that’s easy to embrace from a mindset perspective when it comes to enduring adversity in the moment. But, maybe a month, a year, or more down the road, it’s easy to see why things didn’t work out as planned or why something of nature had to be experienced in general. For starts, whether it be his parents getting divorced, not getting accepted into private high schools in NY (until his athletic abilities and network got him in), getting kicked out of high school twice, or losing his dream of playing baseball on the next level due to injury, failing out of college due to a complete lack of discipline and maturity, feeling lost in life, watching his mother battle cancer… there have been many struggles along the way. And there will be many more that pop up. That’s how we know we’re alive. And, every battle that does pop up is always something that we’re able to handle otherwise, it wouldn’t be on our path.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Decoding Success Podcast?
In December of 2018, Matt found himself with no plan in place after leaving his full-time job with Daymond John of Shark Tank. It was his first job out of college and ego, amongst other things, led him to leave prematurely — something that he can openly admit today. After leaving, there was no plan in place. So, after being bugged for months, maybe longer by his former intern and now really good friend, Matt decided to launch a podcast. His mindset? If I could do this for Daymond, I could do it for myself. The only thing is… Matt’s not Daymond — things were to be very different. On the 4th of December in 2018, The Decoding Success Podcast was born. The show has since grown to be a top 1% globally ranked podcast that has featured the likes of Grant Cardone, Mel Robbins, Patrick Bet-David, Gabby Bernstein, and so many more incredible individuals from Real Housewives to Super Bowl Champion athletes. Matt’s goal with the show may have shifted over the years but where it stands now is exactly where it needs to be: to provide listenership with raw and real conversations that aren’t often had with such familiar faces. Things get deep and Matt doesn’t want it any other way. The point? To let people see that they’re not alone on their journey. To let them feel a sense of resonance with someone they look up to. To build community in the sense of “you don’t have to go at this alone AND you’re not alone.” It’s safe to say that’s being done and will continue to get done for years to come.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Matt’s favorite childhood memory was when he did something he didn’t believe he could do on the baseball field. As a tall, lanky kid, Matt was known for his defensive abilities. He was never really a hitter until this happened. The rumblings from adults about Matt’s ability to hit the ball definitely stuck with him. He believed into it — he just wasn’t that good of a hitter. But, something changed. His father, who would dedicate his nights after long days of work to practice with Matt, doubled down on their time together. It paid off. As Matt and his team were in pursuit of a shot at the Little League World Series, Matt’s bat became alive. Over the course of that year, he was definitely more confident in his swing, but the memory that resonates most was when he finally put a ball over the fence. But, wait… not one ball, but two. Two home runs in one game. It was a beautiful memory to look back on for Matt because he put in the work and was rewarded for his hard work.
