Today we’d like to introduce you to Susset Cabrera.
Hi Susset, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from the University of Miami in 2019 with a Master of Arts in Public Relations. Upon graduating, it became difficult to secure a corporate job due to the economy at the time. Eventually, I met my first client, who encouraged me to open my own PR firm and a week after our initial meeting, I founded Peacock Public Relations. The inspiration for the name came from a beautiful vase my mother kept in her backyard. I was trying to think of a cool name for my company and when I looked over at the vase, there was a gorgeous peacock staring back at me. I quickly googled the significance of a peacock and realized it was the powerful symbol that would lead me to success. In May 2021, I will be celebrating my company’s 11 Year Anniversary and it’s honestly been the most incredible journey of my life. Throughout the years, I’ve been able to work with clients in design, art, fashion, wellness, education, nonprofit, music, entertainment and film.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are never smooth roads in life. The lessons are learned with every bump and sharp turn. Early in my career, I had to grow a thick skin and realize that I would encounter interesting characters in the PR industry. Everyone wasn’t as friendly as they initially seemed. But, it was a necessary process for me to go through because it forced me to develop a sharp business sense and trust my gut feelings. Again, the struggles will always be present because they’re what make life challenging and exciting. At this point, I welcome the interesting characters and I enjoy getting to decide whether we will connect and make a little magic together!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Peacock PR is a full-service public relations, marketing and event company headquartered in Miami, Florida. Our mission is to develop integrated media campaigns that elevate a client’s brand visibility while strengthening their relationships with key publics. By implementing a tailored communications plan, we strive to provide every client with valuable and strategic results. With over a decade of experience in the PR industry, our company has established relationships with media professionals on a local, national and international level.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe honesty and integrity are golden in my industry. It’s all about relationships so it’s important to dedicate time to creating meaningful interactions with clients, media professionals and community leaders. Everything and everyone connects at the end of the day. My job is to visualize those connections in my head and make them happen in real life. I literally do that on a weekly basis for my clients. Aside from the business side, I also think it’s important to give back to the community.
In August 2019, I created an original monthly event series called The Full Moon Glow-UP. Every month, I organize and execute a fun event at the Coral Gables Museum, which features a one-hour retail market and a one-hour yoga class under the stars. The goal is to allow guests to unwind, relax and connect to the powerful energy of the full moon. As of January 2021, we are donating a portion of all ticket sales back to the museum in an effort to support their annual programs and initiatives. The Glow-UP is my passion project and it has truly grown to become a popular event in the Coral Gables community.
