Inspiring Conversations with Demetrius Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetrius Moore.

Hi Demetrius, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Demetrius and I have always been creative with a strong love for art, entrepreneurship, travel, photography, and culture. After I finished college, I decided to move to Dubai in 2016 to work in media. While there, I started commercial modeling. Since living abroad, I was able to accomplish one of my dreams of traveling to many countries. I had the pleasure of traveling to over 35 countries. Some of my favorite places have been Thailand, Iceland and Madagascar. I decided to start a travel blog to inspire other people to start traveling. My blog did extremely well by capturing over 2,000+ views a week. Traveling gave me the power to rewrite my own story and to tell it in a way I wanted it to be narrated. Moving back to the states, I continued to work in Media and landed a position at BBC World News while still modeling part-time. After traveling the world and realizing it was a passion of mine, I got the courage to start a company at the beginning of 2020 called Global Tunnel. Due to my accomplishments, I’ve been fortunate to be featured in Travel Noire, Forbes and on the Travel Channel.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up in Baltimore, MD, I was always a dreamer who believed I could do anything in life. I quickly realized growing up that there are two types of mindsets; a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. When I would tell people my dreams and inspirations, they would sometimes try and discourage me by telling me my dreams weren’t realistic. However, I did not give up on myself and worked hard to become the person I wanted to be. I believe the most important thing you can do is to believe in yourself and never give up. Always remember there’s a reason why you started.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Global Tunnel?
Global Tunnel is a travel company that focuses on self-care and wellness for all people, but the company’s main demographics are people of color and millennials. At each retreat, we have activities such as yoga, rock climbing, facials/massages, meditation, live performances and panel discussions. During each trip, we participate in activities to experience the culture of the location we’re visiting. So far our retreats have held between 14-50 attendees. Going forward, the trips are going to be smaller groups due to the pandemic. Future locations we are planning to visit are Morroco, Indonesia, Belize, and Costa Rica. We were able to be successful with the partnership of different sponsors like yoga companies, government agencies, luxury residences and other travel businesses.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have been blessed to have a support system of family and friends who have been rooting for me since the beginning. Along this journey, I have crossed paths with mentors, colleagues, and other world travelers who have pushed me to keep going for what it is I want in life.
