Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex and Margot Platt.
Alex and Margot, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started selling real estate in South Florida in 2012 when I was 25. I worked at a boutique brokerage and learned as much as I could from my Broker, and built my business on working leads and referrals from friends and family and making sure that everyone I knew, knew that I was a Realtor. I built meaningful relationships with all of my clients so they were comfortable referring me to other people looking to buy or sell their homes, which lead to every transaction turning into multiple transactions.
Once my business was off the ground, I decided it would be best to get my Brokers license and open up my Brokerage, Platt Properties. I grew my brokerage to about 10 agents and realized that I liked helping other agents grow their businesses but enjoyed working with buyers and sellers more.
Managing a brokerage and agents while also giving my clients my undivided attention became too much, so my wife Margot quit her job at Chewy.com to focus on the back end of the business. Coming from a corporate job, she quickly realized that we needed to make a change for ourselves and our brokerage, so in 2018 we joined Compass. This gave us the tools and technology that we were missing to take our business to the next level and we never looked back.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being in sales and solely relying on commissions and not a salary with benefits is difficult and makes the road to success stressful. There is a large part of our business that we can’t control, like the inventory of homes for sale, interest rates, or the stock market, so we focus on optimizing what we can control.
We can control our marketing, our client’s experience working with us, and clients’ expectations when working with us whether they are buying or listing their homes with us. When accepting and focusing on what we can control leads to more business and referrals, and it makes our job a little easier.

All of our clients know that my wife, Margot, and I work together, but not everyone knows that Margot only does operations and team management. A lot of clients approach Margot and believe that she is out selling homes and meeting with clients and doing transactions, when in fact it is the opposite.
Margot is the glue of our team and our business that keeps the machine functioning seamlessly. This allows me to work in the business and her to work on the business. This is truly what separates us from most Realtors and Teams.
We have a system that works, where we can continue to grow our business and simultaneously give our team and clients white glove service.
