Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Glenice Davis-Glover of Bi-Wi “Because I’m Worth It!” International, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Glenice Davis-Glover.

Hi Dr. Glover, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born in Vidalia, Ga in 1958, to a two-parent family and five siblings, our family immediately moved to Jacksonville, FL, where we lived in a three-room “shot-gun” house on Rte. Max Court. We remained in Jacksonville until 1966 when we moved to a small duplex apartment in North Miami Beach, FL to be closer to my Mom’s family. Mom and dad purchased a small three bedroom one bath 900 square foot home in North Miami Beach, FL and there they raised our family’s eight. We didn’t grow up with a lot of the luxuries of life, but we had a great sense of family love and what it means to fear God. Daddy was a strict Pentecostal preacher who loved quartet music. He taught my siblings and me to sing and play musical instruments. I learned lead guitar (electric), and it was in the living room of our small home where we learned all of our life lessons. Music continues to play an integral part of my life today! I’ve recorded many musical projects over my lifetime (i.e., “Let the Blues Bless You,” “Worship At Bethel,” “I Do Love You”), and many more.! Graduating from and HBCU, Bethune-Cookman College/University, Daytona Beach, FL in 1980 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, I pursued a 35-year accounting career with the Federal Government as a Senior Auditor both with the Internal Revenue Service and the US Defense Department. Married in 1987 to Ronnie S Glover of Montezuma, GA, and to the union were born two handsome young men Todrick and Trevor Glover. We now have one daughter n love, Olivia Glover, whom we love dearly. In 2011 I graduated from South Florida Bible College and Theological Seminary with a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Counseling. In 2013, I retired from the Government.

With so much energy and life left after retirement, in 2014, I authored a book, “Girls! God’s Treasured Possessions”, and started a 501(c)(3) organization, Bi-Wi “Because I’m Worth It!” International, Inc., an organization that mentors girls and women, ages eight years and above, who struggle with low self-esteem. In 2015, I went back to school and earned my Doctorate Degree in Biblical Counseling from Andersonville Theological Seminary. We wrote the workbook for Girls! God’s Treasured Possessions in 2015 and we currently work in the public school system with the workbook teaching girls to love themselves. To date, we are in contract with the United Way of Palm Beach County, Quantum Foundation and Children Services Council of Palm Beach County to mentor a minimum of 100 girls per year over a three-year term. We are experiencing great results both with our elementary and high school girls and our adult participants. Lastly, I received a notification that I was recommended for Marqui’s Who’s Who in America. They forwarded a plaque and included me as an accomplished American author, entrepreneur, and business woman. I attribute all of my accomplishments to God’s grace and my parents’ faithful love shown us and their wisdom teachings. I would not be where I am without either of these (God and my parents). So, I conclude by saying to God be the glory, great things He has done; and He’s not finished yet. My goal is to be a worldwide Fortune 500 company, helping needy girls to improve their self worth to a healthy level so that they will have an equal opportunity at attaining the best that life has to offer.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My journey has not been an easy one. I grew up as a girl who struggled with low self esteem because of the era I was raised (1960’s and 70’s), brighter skin was much more accepted than darker-skinned. For example my sisters were all of a brighter skin tone than mine, and their first jobs were secretarial jobs at age 15. My first job was “label Girl” in a hosiery warehouse in Hialeah. I was darker skinned and was reminded of this often in the way I was treated. I’ve had to fight my way through my own insecurities to get where I am today. This is why I am so passionate about my work with girls who show signs of low self esteem and a negative self image. When I began the company we had no funding for four years. I used my retirement pension to fund my programs. Just at the time I thought I would have to give up, funding began to trickle in and today we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are in need of volunteers to help administer the program to needing students because right now our demand is growing and we need help. Until we get the help we will work extra hard to get the job done. Owning your own business is many times more difficult than working for someone because I find that I have to make happen what would be done for me if I were working for someone.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Bi-Wi “Because I’m Worth It!” is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that mentors girls ages 8 years and above (women included) who struggle in the area of low self esteem. I founded the company in 2014 upon retiring after 35 years with the Federal Government as an auditor. Our focus is every girl with a struggle in the are of self esteem. We do not discriminate! We want to help every girl who struggles and help to build her self esteem to a healthy level. Our service is offered in a group setting, with girls or women of similar age groups. Each participant receives helpful tools from a loving and caring mentor whose sole purpose is to assist the participant in reaching their goal of a healthy self esteem.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is when my Dad would be in the living room teaching my siblings and me songs to sing and play in our family quartet, “The Little Shadows”. Mom would be in the dining room and we were all in the living room with Dad. The whole family was together in the same space. This picture is the epitome of love and warmth in my memory bank.
