Hidden Gems: Meet Diamond Williams of DW Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Williams.

Hi Diamond, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
DW Training stands for Diamond Williams Training. The purpose of DW Training is to increase athlete’s confidence, improve their skills, and turn their weaknesses into strengths. My father, Dave Williams, was my inspiration to start my own basketball training company. He was a pillar of society and volunteer coached for youth football for many years. He also was my mentor and personal basketball coach. After every basketball game, we would go over stats and talk about areas of improvement. We would then go to our neighborhood park, Bass Park, and work on individual skills that would help make me a better basketball player. After suffering the loss of my father during my junior year of college, I learned how the game of basketball can help in overcoming challenges, teach self-discipline and personal responsibility. It motivated me to train harder, work harder, and perfect my craft. It also deepened my love for individual training. I started attending player development trainings at least 3 to 4 times out of the week, outside of my collegiate practice and games. I also begin doing one on one trainings with my teammates to help them improve on their individual skills. Because of my resilience, dedication and individual trainings, I am currently a hall of famer for Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball program and CEO of DW Training, LLC.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. My first year of being a business owner was a learning experience. I had to do a lot of research before I actually presented DW Training to the world. I was unsure about what I wanted my business name to be, couldn’t decide on the logo, who was going to be my target audience, and how much I was going to charge. I also had to figure out my marketing strategy and any certifications or trainings that would be needed in order to properly train on techniques and emergency situations. Furthermore, I learned about my business seasons, and when I can expect my business to have a high fluctuation of clients and when there would be a slow season/ low number of clients, and create new ways to promote and attract new clients during that season.

As you know, we’re big fans of DW Training LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
DW Training is a basketball skill development business. It includes basketball training sessions that focus on basketball fundamentals, such as passing, dribbling and ball-handling, shooting form and release, lay ups, defense, footwork, triple threat position and pivoting, and foul shooting. Once the athlete’s goal has been identified, I create an individual workout that will include a combination of athletic and skill training. Since everyone may not be on the same athletic level and may learn differently than others, there is different unique strategies for each individual attending DW Training. The age demographic for DW Training is ages six and older. Both males and females are welcomed to attend training.

What separates me from other training organizations is the mentorship and personal development that my clients gain. I believe that training is just one part of the game, personal development is another part of who you are as an athlete. DW Training is built on the pillars of strength, endurance, agility and flexibility. The backbone of the program is to facilitate the next generation with player development by building confidence, obedience, and attitudes and mindsets that are instrumental in development of their relationships with themselves, others, and society.

I am most proud that I build a brand where I can give back to my community, as my father gave back to his community. I am glad that I am able to see the improvements and developments of each of the clients I train both in an individual and group setting. I am moreso filled with gratitude when my clients realize their growth within themselves.
