Hidden Gems: Meet Brandi Jenkins of Ausome EDscursions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Jenkins.

Brandi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ausome EDscursions began as a way for me to be able to introduce social/personal topics to students in my homeroom classroom. I simply wanted them to target a few basic concepts such as identifying and recognizing community signs, colors, and patterns. I then expanded to creating activities and passages that introduced social studies topics to students with a range of cognitive disabilities in my social studies classroom.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road: from losing an entire 9 weeks’ worth of content to juggling simultaneous teaching while continuing to create (and in some cases recreate) content.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I design leveled yearlong curriculum to be used for students with disabilities.

I am most proud of creating something that I can actually use in my own classroom that will also benefit others by having readymade content for teachers to use throughout the school year. All they have to do is print and go. This will have an impact on students that I will never see or teach. But something that I created will touch their lives and possibly spark a conversation that otherwise wouldn’t have happened.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan on expanding to other core subjects soon and can’t wait to roll out my YouTube channel which I am hoping will benefit those who are new to the profession.

Pricing:

  • Yearlong social studies curriculum $49.99
  • Daily living skills activities $3.50
