Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Tackenberg.
Hi Amanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was always interested in family law during law school, mainly because I think it’s a very personal area of law where you have the opportunity to make an impact in someone’s life during a uniquely vulnerable and emotional time.
After graduating from the University of Florida Levin College of Law where I obtained my family law certificate and worked in the juvenile and dependency clinic, I gained invaluable experience working at an excellent boutique family law firm in downtown Miami for eight years. I decided to venture out on my own just before my daughter was set to start pre-school. I still practice family law and my practice focuses primarily on prenuptial agreements, divorces, and paternity cases. Even though this area of practice can be challenging because emotions tend to run high and the nature of the cases means that it’s very personal, I firmly believe in guiding my clients by explaining to them what the process entails, what their risks are, and helping them settle their cases on their own terms so that they can move on and start the next chapter of their lives.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not always been easy. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to practice in an area of law that’s a lot less emotionally taxing, but when I settle a case for a client or I get a great result in court, I’m reminded that this can be a very rewarding area in which to practice. Setting up my own business presented me with new challenges and room for growth, but ultimately, it made me push my bounds of comfort and has been so rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I own and manage a family law firm. My practice focuses primarily on prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, divorces, paternity cases, and post-judgment cases (modifications or enforcement of your agreements or court orders). I am also a Supreme Court certified family law mediator.
I firmly believe in explaining the process of your court case, the risks and benefits of trial, the pros and cons of settlement, and in being well-prepared so that my clients feel empowered to make their own decisions regarding their cases.
I also strongly believe in engaging with the community and continually advancing my legal career, and knowledge. I am proud to serve on the Executive Council of the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar, where I am surrounded by some of the best family law attorneys across the state who are invaluable resources and where we discuss the most pressing and latest issues affecting families across the state. Being at the forefront of what’s happening in the law is critical in advising my clients as to the best course of action.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I listen to my clients, can empathize with their frustrations, and I then I clearly communicate with them what I can do within the constraints of the law. I strive to be well-prepared (if not over-prepared), whether it be for a mediation or a hearing.
