Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Wismont.
Hi Scott, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve loved travel since a very young age, taking summer road trips with my grandparents as we set out to visit the extended family. I took my first cruise in early 2015 and found that I had a passion for researching and planning the vacation to the point that I took the leap of joining a travel agency to help others plan.
For the next several years, I worked with a Disney-focused agency, but I knew I wanted to work with the members of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2020, I took the opportunity to start Rainbow Getaways, allowing me the freedom to focus on the LGBTQ+ community and ensure that travelers can see the world without worrying about the destination.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As you might expect, it’s been a bumpy road launching Rainbow Getaways during the pandemic. While this presented me with a chance to move everything to my branding without disrupting existing trips, having the travel world shut down led to the delayed satisfaction of seeing my travelers experience their vacations.
Beyond the pandemic, finding travel partners in countries or destinations that are not as welcoming for our community has presented a unique challenge. I’ve worked the last few years to overcome this by building a strong network with travel partners from around the globe. This allows my travelers to experience destinations that they otherwise may not consider.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rainbow Getaways?
At Rainbow Getaways, we understand that planning travel for the LGBTQ community (and our allies) can be super stressful. Members of our community not only have the standard overwhelm of making sure that all our i’s are dotted, and t’s are crossed, but we also have an additional element of planning that is required. It is essential that we feel confident and comfortable to explore and enjoy the destinations that we visit.
When we plan vacations for members of our community (and our allies), we create magic. Working with us is often described as working with a friend with the expertise and connections to the best travel suppliers and destinations.
What matters most to you? Why?
Creating experiences that beg to be told as epic stories. I live by a quote: “memories are the only thing you get to carry with you everywhere.” Sometimes these memories are kept to ourselves, and we reflect on them over the years in self-reflection. Others are meant to be shared, and I live for creating itineraries that allow those memories to happen.
As someone with an addiction to travel, I appreciate the small moments and work to create space in itineraries to allow them to happen. Often, the random and unplanned vacation moments are the parts we remember the most. I ensure that all the significant parts are taken care of so you can live in the moment and experience your destination.
