Today we’d like to introduce you to Saraiya Eve Limage.
Hi Saraiya Eve, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m 17 years old and my passion for sewing started at the age of eight. My mentor, who is also a seamstress, would give me her extra fabric pieces in which I would create outfits for my dolls using tape and staples. I found joy in it and realized that sewing was something I wanted to do. My mom purchased my first sewing machine after recognizing my interest and enrolled me in sewing classes. I enjoy using my creativity to design the latest fashion trends and bringing my ideas to life. My brand, Saraiya Eve, was created to share my work and talent with others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey didn’t start off smooth. I started my business at the age of 15 and everything happened so fast. I had to learn to juggle school, sewing classes, and my business which includes participating in pop-up events and running my website along with social media. I didn’t know it would be so difficult but with the help of my mom, I learned to balance everything.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I run a sewing business called Saraiya Eve Designs. One of my favorite designs is the Saraiya Eve Hooded Scarf which was created to keep people warm through cold and snowy winters and the Saraiya Eve Satin Bonnet was designed to protect braids, locs, and natural hairstyles. I am currently OSHA certified and plan on working on other designs as I pursue a career in Graphic Design and Business & Marketing. I’ve invested in my own heating press and plan on starting my graphic T-shirt line soon as I continue to participate in pop-up events.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Yes, I’ve taken a few risks throughout this journey . For one, purchasing a large amount of fabric and materials and paying for vendor participation not knowing if a profit would be made. It’s scary not knowing the outcome of your day in sales. I’ve learned that having a business is about taking risks and learned that risks will work out if you plan ahead and don’t overthink. I’ve also learned that providing good customer service allows you to have returning customers, new customers, and positive reviews.
