Hi McCall, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a love for home decor and all things interior design. Ironically, the thought of transforming this passion into a career had never dawned on me. In fact, Interiors by McCall came about somewhat accidentally.
After renovating my home and sharing several photos via social media, I was immediately contacted by friends and family to re-design their homes. Before I knew it, I was designing for friends and friends of friends, and the chain continued. Referrals are definitely a creative’s best friend. Eventually, I learned and mastered the amazing concept of eDesign, and this method of design became the perfect fit for my nomadic lifestyle.
While spending ten years in Europe where my husband was playing professional basketball, I worked virtually to help design the homes of my clients all over the world. Since his retirement, we have relocated back to the USA and I now practice a hybrid business model of both in-person full-service interior design and remote edesign.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No way! Although I’ve been surprised by how much my business has grown year too year, there has been a massive learning curve along the way. I didn’t go to school for interior design so I had to learn to expand my team and hire someone who knows the technological aspects of the business that I was never formally taught.
Additionally, the growth of my business has overlapped with my beginning years as a new mom. I had three kids in 22 months and I definitely have struggled balancing a mom (and a new one at that) with being a businesswoman.
As you know, we’re big fans of Interiors by McCall. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Interiors by McCall is a boutique design firm specializing in both full-service design and e-design. We love to give our clients a beautifully designed home that is a direct reflection of who they are.
With our firm, you will never get cookie cutter. Your home is a reflection of yourself and the design should reflect that. We urge our clients to take risks and make their homes a fabulous place they’re excited to come home to.
Design is not one size fits all and we know that. We work with you analyze your budget and lifestyle to be sure we align your home design with your priorities in mind.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t necessarily believe in luck more as opportunity and I think we can put ourselves in situations with hard work and research to find ourselves more opportunities. Rather than luck, I believe relationships have played a huge part in my business. I reached out to women who had what I wanted and talked to them about their journey. The interior design community is so uplifting and I have found mentors who have definitely helped contribute to my success.
