Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiani Gomez.
Hi Kiani, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I discovered my passion for animals when I was very young. In fact, some of my earliest memories revolve around them. I didn’t have a very easy childhood, but I remember having my four-legged friend by my side through some of the worst moments in my life. I lost my father before I was able to form lasting memories of him and grew up hearing stories of how great and compassionate he was. I struggled through my teenage years and that struggle eventually pushed me to want better for myself and for those around me. During pressing moments, I tried to focus on what brought me peace and joy— and that always brought me back to animals. They helped me to find balance and eventually see my purpose in life.
Family and friends always knew I would build my career around animals. They knew I had a gift, and that gift was taking care of animals.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but each stepping stone has served me in the long run. For years I worked at veterinary clinics and pet stores. I had the pleasure to work alongside very successful and experienced individuals, but I also witnessed the negative side of corporate greed and a lack of care for animals. Seeing this firsthand strengthened my conviction to work with animals and to make a difference. I set out to improve and modernize pet care and the lives of pet owners.
In addition, there’s the financial hardship that comes along with launching any business. There’s a learning curve I have to confront each day in order to continue to organically grow my business in new ways, like when we decided to add an accessories line to our site. From the beginning, our priority was not to sell the most amount of animals. We wanted to focus on how we could provide a different level of detail for our clients and our puppies, focus on guiding first-time pet owners through their journey while building up word of mouth locally and repeat interactions with existing clients.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Elite Pets is an online pet store that specializes in sourcing, vetting, pet care, and accessories. Our mission is to enrich the lives of our pets and their families by providing excellent pet care, peace of mind, and security. We bring premium breeds at reasonable prices for individuals worldwide. We even offer concierge transportation services whereby we’ll travel to deliver our furry friends to their new homes. Each one of our pets is raised and cared for as if they were part of our family. We stay in touch and get to see them grow. Sometimes we even go on to source a second pet for devoted families.
We are not an ordinary pet store; we thrive to find the perfect match for each pet and person. The best part of our business is getting to see how our little ones grow up with their new families. We are a cage-free pet store and our puppies come from local breeders that have been vetted and we have worked with for years. We ensure that our breeders provide the best care and hygiene for our little ones and their parents. I provide my personal number and offer 24/7 support for any questions or concerns our pet parents may have. Raising happy and healthy puppies is essential for them to live a long happy life. As a follow-up, our pet store provides modern pet accessories such as toys, harnesses, and leashes.
The life of an entrepreneur can be difficult but as the saying goes “Find what you enjoy doing and you’ll never have to if you work a day in your life.” You will certainly face challenges but what has felt like failures at the moment has helped me become who I am today.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I would have to say it was the moment where it dawned on me that this business was something I could genuinely dedicate myself to full time. More specifically, I had an opportunity to change the lives of the pets and people I work with.
It is mind-blowing how a pet can bring so much comfort and joy not only to individual persons but also to entire families. There are so many ways pets affect us for the better— think about service and emotional support animals, for example.
The beginning of this beautiful career — that’s my favorite moment thus far. But I’m looking forward to many more meaningful moments in the future…
