Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Cox.
Hi Brittany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My family always owned small businesses growing up. From a staffing agency in New Jersey to a bakery in Florida, I knew the multiple hats small business owners had to wear since I was young. I began my career in marketing with the tenacity to learn what it takes to be an excellent partner to clients while working in multiple markets.
My work at a small business marketing agency in Florida led to a more corporate position in New York City, which allowed me to have a unique perspective on all marketing efforts. I wanted to use what I learned from high-level marketing projects and bring it back to small businesses that are truly passionate about what they do. Once I knew that I wanted to start something of my own, I opened Serendipity & Company.
Serendipity & Co is a full-service small business marketing agency that has been thriving for over three years with clients in the hospitality, tech, wholesale, and specialty goods industries. We are rapidly growing and expanding with clients across New York, Chicago, and, one of my favorite places, Miami.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Is any road that smooth? It hasn’t been the easiest journey, but every “wrong turn” or pothole in the road has led to new discoveries and serendipitous connections. I began Serendipity & Co in the summer of 2019 with a few clients in the restaurant industry. When the pandemic hit and New York City went quiet, it was a major obstacle.
Influencer events were canceled, launches were postponed and regulars at my client’s restaurants weren’t able to come in. It was difficult for everyone, but the close relationships I had with all of my clients helped keep our spirits up. We focused efforts on creating excellent content, switching to delivery, growing our social presence, and giving back to the community in any way that we could.
Now, New York City is back and as vibrant as ever. One of our clients, Whitmans, has opened a new location in Miami South Beach with plans to open another elevated comfort food restaurant in Wynwood this fall! Any struggle we face, we face it together and come out of it together.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Serendipity & Company?
We like to think of ourselves as the Swiss Army Knife of small business marketing— always at your side, multi-faceted, and ready to help. Serendipity & Co creates customized marketing plans and strategies to fit the needs of growing small businesses and can include tactics like social media, email marketing, large-scale collaborations, graphic design, influencer marketing, media buying, campaign development and execution, website creation and maintenance, business strategy and more.
Our team takes a highly scientific and methodical approach to marketing where driving incremental sales is the North star. We feel that marketing should be treated as a marathon, not a sprint. It takes time, thought, testing, research, trial and error, repetition, and care to succeed. We will not see results overnight. We will see highs and lows, dips and spikes, but most importantly, we will take the time to connect, interact and engage with the audience to find out what makes them tick, convert and get excited.
Any big plans?
We have big plans for the future!
Serendipity & Co hired its first full-time employee, grew the team by three additional part-time members, and increased its client base over this past year. Our team has plans to continue growing in 2023 with additional full-time hires to meet the increasing scope of our current clients and continue growing our client roster. We are currently looking to expand our reach in the Miami hospitality industry by taking on growing boutique hotel clients.
After many trips to visit current clients in Miami, we noticed that many of these beautiful boutique hotels do not have a strong marketing presence and lack social media engagement. These are some of the nicest hotels we’ve ever stayed at and we would love to help them continue to grow.
