Exploring Life & Business with Alejandra Aviles of La Nana’s Cakes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Aviles.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always felt a passion for desserts. I remember my grandmother making cakes without using a mixer. She made everything from scratch. When the pandemic started, I thought of occupying my time studying something that would make my skills and my hobby grow. That is how I became a pastry chef.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? Not always! It’s been a slow road! It’s been a path of study, experimentation, and learning from other pastry chefs. The struggle is a normal part of achieving success. Consistency has been my key to achieving success

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about La Nana’s Cakes?
I specialize in desserts with authentic Venezuelan flavors. I want my Venezuelan clients to remember a piece of their country in every bite. I bake with fresh and organic products. I don’t use preservatives. I want all the people who try my desserts for the first time to know the Caribbean fusion.

My pina colada cake leaves everyone with an explosion of flavor. My traditional cake, “Imperial de Frutas” is a combination of moist sponge cake filled with pastry cream, fruit, and one of the unforgettable flavors of my “Pasta Seca” cookies. It’s a Venezuelan tradition.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I worked as a journalist in Venezuela since 2011. During my last 5 years in Venezuela, I worked on a radio station narrating the news. I love investigative journalism. I also like Digital Marketing. I use that creative energy to promote my brand through social media. I try to adjust my products to meet trends. I want my clients to enjoy a traditional flavor while making a fusion of what is trending.
