Today we’d like to introduce you to Trina Clark.
Hi Trina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve had a love for learning for as long as I can remember. I began sharing that love for learning when I worked Breakthrough Miami as a Teaching Fellow from the summer before my junior year until the summer before my freshmen year of college. I finally entered the classroom full time in 2017, teaching 9th grade Reading. I decided to take a more personal approach to sharing that learning with others. In July 2019, I brainstormed the ideas for starting a tutoring company.
In December 2019, I launched my social media pages. January 2020, I filed the paperwork to become an LLC. September 7, 2020, I decided to pursue my tutoring company full time! As of now, I have five clients that range from 1st grade – 8th grade. I specialize in providing ELA assistance to my clients as well as general homework help.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing about the road to entrepreneurship has been easy! It has been difficult, especially when I decided to leave my full time job to pursue this dream full time. I went from make $25/hour to making about $30 a week! My company is still a work in progress. I am not at a place where I can depend on tutoring solely as a main source of income, so my best friend offered me a job a few hours a week to handle the logistics of a store he owns. I also teach a college English class on Fridays. With the flexibility of my current jobs, I am able to maintain and build my clientele around it.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Master’s Plan Tutoring Company provides ELA tutoring for all ages. It also provide high school seniors with assistance with the college application process. My relationship with God has been pivotal in every stage of my business… even down to its name. The Master in my business’s name comes from the ultimate master… God. God has gifted me with a love for learning and this is how I’m share my love with others.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m pretty transparent so most people know most things. I was in the Army for 4 years. I lost my dad to lung cancer when I was 11 years old. But…what may surprise people is that I’m secretly an introvert. It’s like I enjoy time with others but I’m very comfortable being alone. Everything else is very clear: I love God, my family and helping folks be their best selves!
