Today we’d like to introduce you to Zulie Rego.
Hi Zulie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Back in 2017, I started with a rebel camera and a kit lens. I had no clue what I was doing but I knew that if I just went for it, I would learn along the way and figure out how to become successful. I think I figured out there isn’t any secret to growing a business. It takes time, it takes work and a ton of connections.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest struggles for me has been work/life balance. It’s hard when you’re on vacation with family and have emails/texts/ dms to respond to and you feel like you can’t disconnect. Sometimes having a small business can feel like you can’t take time off or that by doing so you will lose clients. I’ve learned the hard way that rest is a luxury but a necessary to run a successful business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a destination wedding photographer currently based in Miami. I’m really proud of how much I’ve traveled through the years from work and how fulfilling that has been. I don’t overwork myself and try my best to only book a certain amount of weddings per year. I really pride myself in quality vs quantity. I’d rather be the best I can be each time for 20 people than be mediocre but working with 200 people.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Miami is a melting pot of people and cultures. I love being able to meet people from all over the world. I don’t particulate enjoy the heavy traffic but other than that it’s a really cool city.
