Daily Inspiration: Meet Susan Rocco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Rocco.

Hi Susan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Susan Rocco and I grew up just outside of Philadelphia in a little town called Flourtown. I now live in Worcester, PA with my husband and have two grown children. Nothing lights me up more than my family 🙂 From the day I was born I’ve been fascinated by people. There is nothing I enjoy more than humans, where they come from, and what is at the heart of their beliefs and dreams. I was also a bit shy and reserved while at the same time very social. I went off to college and majored in communications because of my love of media and wanting to be “in the know” of what was happening in the world. I dreamed of being a journalist and telling stories.

When I graduated I was at a loss for how to make that dream come true. I had severe anxiety and a lack of belief in myself. Two things held me back-a belief that everyone else in the world was smarter than me and constantly looking to others for answers as opposed to listening to my inner voice.

I spent many years searching and reflecting on why I was here and what I was meant to be doing. We should all ask ourselves, what is it that is most important to me? When I realized that peace was at the heart of my desires, I also discovered that women are at the heart of peace. At the age of 48, I walked into a radio station with an idea for a show, and in 2012 Women to Watch Media® was born.

I wanted a show that would not only inspire women for a moment in time but would motivate them to take action in their lives. I believe that when more women are leading across the world in all industries the world will be a better and more peaceful place.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At first, I was naive about what it takes to sustain and grow a business. People are my gift… business is not. I knew I could interview people and get them to open up, but finding advertisers and sponsors without an established show that had metrics was another story!

Over time I managed to keep the show going by sharing with others my vision for Women to Watch® and how I wanted to create a media platform that was woman-owned, women-run, and for women in every state of their lives. It’s challenging to find the right people to work with. I am trusting by nature and often attract people that turn out to take advantage of my kindness and perhaps lack of business savvy.

That’s a lesson I continue to work on today. For an entrepreneur, the burden is always on you but the dream and passion for the work keep you going.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love the question. I had an incredible revelation on Tuesday, August 7th, 2012 at 9 am. The world original came to me in a very powerful way while I was talking to myself about the first meeting I was about to have with the GM of that first radio station.

That revelation changed my life. I thought to myself, if every human being on the planet is original, one-of-a-kind, then we all must have something completely different to offer the world than anyone else! It allowed me to stop looking outward and comparing myself to others. I would from that day on be my full authentic self and see what happens. That is what I want for every woman. When we tap into that one-of-a-kind self, success is inevitable.

What does success mean to you?
Having freedom and peace of mind is true success.
