Daily Inspiration: Meet Suhay Gonzalez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suhay Gonzalez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in New York. I am a Latina and proud mother of an active-duty Army soldier. My profession is in accounting and finance, and I am currently the Chief Financial Officer for a federal healthcare agency. In 2018, at the age of 61, my mother lost her battle to a Glioblastoma brain tumor, and it was a turning point for me an awakening moment that reminded me that life is short.

To honor my mother, I made a conscious decision to transform my sadness into something beautiful by creating Seis Cosmetics, a line of lip color and care products. As a woman-owned  small business, Seis represents luxury cosmetics for a great cause – inspired by my mother; she loved makeup, especially a good lipstick. Even through her chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she would ask that I put makeup on her. I miss her tremendously and know that these products would bring her great joy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With no prior experience in the makeup industry, I set out to launch Seis Cosmetics in 2020. It took years of research and hard work to develop and bring to life an idea, but it’s been satisfying. And while the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the launch of my small business, it was a blessing as it helped me make my brand even better by adding more products to the line. I launched Seis Cosmetics in 2021. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The company primarily focuses on lips – from lip care to color cosmetics, we have something for absolutely everyone. As a woman of color, inclusivity was a must, so I was committed to carrying diverse shades – but I did not stop there. I also offer products that are vegan, gluten-free and paraben-free, including a plant-based line made with organic ingredients. Seis Cosmetics is cruelty-free certified by Leaping Bunny and our packaging is sustainable and recyclable.

Whether you’re obsessed with makeup or barely wear it, there’s a beautiful range of products to meet your needs.

In memory of my mother, Seis Cosmetics pledges to donate a portion of profits toward brain cancer research.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
With no prior experience in the makeup industry, launching a beauty line was a huge risk for me! Especially during a global pandemic. I am beyond proud of my company and its mission. I hope by putting Seis Cosmetics out into the world, I can help bring more awareness to the importance of brain health, inspire other women to follow their dreams, and make them feel empowered when wearing Seis Cosmetics. It’s never too late to reinvent yourself or work on something you are passionate about.
