Daily Inspiration: Meet Lauren Lyons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Lyons.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and have always loved to entertain and make people laugh. From a young age, I’ve been a creative storyteller – at first for my own enjoyment and then for the delight of many. As soon as I discovered that “playing dress up and make-believe” could be a career, I never looked back.

This love of performing led me to train at the Orange County School of the Arts, South Coast Repertory, and NYU where I recently received a BFA in Drama with Honors and a Double Minor in Business Entertainment and Producing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As I always say, “the highs are high, and the lows are low,” especially in this industry. Facing rejection comes with the territory but discovering my inner strength, perseverance, and tenacity to push through even when the going gets tough is my personal superpower.

I’ve also approached the entertainment industry from a unique perspective and often go about it the “unconventional way.” Because I’m a multi-hyphenate artist, I learn best by understanding how every role works. I’ve gotten the opportunity to learn more about the world of entertainment through multiple lenses whether that’s onstage, in front of the camera, or behind the scenes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actor, singer, dancer, stunt performer, musician, and creator.

In my performances, I strive to find the heart, intellect, and passion in my characters, specifically in those that are misunderstood or overlooked. Making an audience care about a character, no matter how morally “good” or “bad,” is one of my specialties. From heartbreaking, dramatic to quirky, comedic – I love exploring all different characters. As a singer, I specialize in pop, musical theatre, and legit classical music. My favorite styles of dance are ballet (en pointe and partnering), tap, and jazz. As a stunt performer, I’m trained in armed and unarmed combat for stage/screen. I specialize in rapier and broadsword which is always a fun time. I also play piano, guitar, and ukulele and love to accompany myself when singing. Regarding the business side of the industry, I love getting involved in the casting, writing, and producing process.

Amidst my training, I’ve been fortunate enough to perform at the Broadway Cort Theatre, 54 Below, Green Room 42, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, and South Coast Repertory as well as my voice being heard abroad at Universal Studios Japan.

What does success mean to you?
I think John Wooden puts it best, “Success is not final; failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.”
