Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Sophiex.
Hi Alexander, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My creative path began in childhood. At the moment, I am engaged in three directions in art. This Is Music, Drum Art, Painting. My first musical instrument is drums. I made my first drum beat when I was four years old. My parents and I happened to be near the performance of orchestra and right during the performance, I ran up to the drummer and demanded sticks from him. It’s not strange, but he gave me sticks and I started to beat the drum. It was my first music show.
Then there was a creative break for eight years and at the age of 13, we started organizing a rock band at school. Mysticism was also present here. At that time, I definitely wanted to become a drummer, but during the formation of music band, another person took the place of drummer and I got a bass guitar. So I started playing in band as a bass guitarist, but during breaks I always sat down at the drums and practiced. Gradually, I began to play better than the official drummer, and one day on the eve of a responsible performance, our leader announced to everyone that Alexander Sophiex would play drums at this concert. Of course, it was a great joy for me.
Then, about two years later, I had another important moment. I was invited to play in a serious musical group, where all musicians were ten years older than me. It was a very happy and exciting moment in my life. I was afraid that I would not cope with my duties, but my colleagues always calmed me down and supported my drumming. But I didn’t relax during this period of time either. I started seriously practicing on the drum kit individually. Gradually, I concentrated on the drum kit classes and I began to have my own exercises and rhythms. This was beginning of development my original drum school. Subsequently, I called it a “System of saturated play”. Throughout my life, I continue to practice drums improve my playing and my school. Also, knowing of rhythm helps a lot in creating music and my composing activities. Rhythm is an amazing phenomenon in the universe and I am happy to study it, discover the secrets of Rhythm and show it to other people.
In parallel, I participated in some musical projects, but gradually I was more and more overcome by the desire to create music myself. And I started studying piano. Also, after a while I got a good synthesizer and recorded a series of music. I didn’t plan to make an album, but at some point the idea came to me that it was possible to make a full-fledged album out of my music. And I said to myself… After all, you wanted this, so do it. And I started looking for an opportunity to do it. After some time, fate brought me together with an interesting musician from Denmark, Michael Scott. I showed him my recordings and quite unexpectedly, he offered to record me a real CD in Denmark. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. That’s how my debut solo album called “Music for Reflection” appeared. It was my first solo work as a composer. Subsequently, after five years, this album brought me a little fame in my homeland in Belarus. I became the winner of the national competition and the “Discovery of year”.
Of course, it was a very pleasant moment and emotional support for my further work. Moreover, at that time my next album “Weight of Wind” was already ready and I was planning to do a series of concerts. Also, this album fell into the hands of psychological doctors. They started using my music for therapeutic purposes as a means to relax and harmonize the emotional state of a person. It was another surprise for me. Psychologists contacted me and we met. He told me about the healing properties of my music and, of course, about the prospects for the development of this musical genre. Further, cooperation with psychologists has become part of my work and now I actively cooperate with beauty and health centers, including well-known ones. As a result of communication with psychologists, I became a musical preacher and often tell people about the benefits of good music.
At the moment, I have four music albums that I continue to distribute around the world. By the way, my first digital distribution company was a music label from Miami. Basically, I create modern instrumental music, which is also well suited for cinema, commercials and various kinds of videos on YouTube. But I also have songs. I collaborate with singers, including soprano vocals. In some of my compositions, there is a soprano vocal part. And last year we recorded a beautiful love song “Angel” with American singer Serge Grant. There is already a video clip for this song on my channel, I invite you to watch it. And you can listen to and buy my music in all well-known stores iTunes, Spotify, Amazon… Here are links to my music – https://songwhip.com/alexandersophiex
… After I became the winner of the national competition, as a result of the mystical events that happened to me, I started painting. This activity was also an incredible discovery for me. It’s just an incredible way to switch and take a break from music studio work. Then this activity became part of my professional activity. There is a whole story and an event thanks to which I started painting. I propose to devote a separate article to painting. My art can be viewed and purchased on the well-known American website “Saatchiart” – https://www.saatchiart.com/sophiex
And finally, public activity is my “Indigo Fund”. It’s very simple. There is an entertainment industry and pop culture that is widely developed and successfully operates all over the world. But there is also a more serious art that does not receive such wide distribution and due attention. Accordingly, such art and authors experience serious difficulties at all stages of development. Basically, this is the process of creation and, of course, distribution and implementation. This is directly related to the financing and payback of such art projects. Therefore, I had the idea of creating such a fund for the support and development of culture.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, this is a difficult path. When you are at the beginning of journey, you don’t think about it and it seems that tomorrow or the day after tomorrow everything will happen. But over time, views on the world change. Experience comes and a lot of information about how the culture industry works in the world. And everywhere the conditions for development are different. But with the development of modern technologies, it has become easier. On the other hand, more people use these technologies and it is just as difficult to become noticeable. Nevertheless, I am full of optimism and am only moving forward. In particular, thanks to such wonderful people as you.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, of course. These are very serious circumstances that have affected all spheres of life around the world. Most of all, I worry about the sphere of culture and the opportunity to hold cultural events. This is the most important aspect of human life and society. Going to concerts, visiting exhibitions, theaters, movies… We should meet more often, communicate, make friends and develop. Let’s all keep this opportunity together. By the way, Florida State has the most favorable situation in terms of restrictive measures compared to other states. And it certainly pleases. I would like to wish the whole world a speedy normalization of situation.
