Conversations with Rachael Avara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Avara.

Rachael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
For the past almost decade, I have been immersed in the world of luxury wedding and event planning and design. My career began in 2013 at a luxury creative firm in my hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, where I held the position of Lead Event Producer. A role in which I project managed and designed hundreds of weddings, social and corporate occasions of all shapes and sizes across the United States. Gaining multiple features in publications such as Style Me Pretty, Magnolia Rouge, Baltimore Weddings, Grace Ormonde, and Carats & Cake to name a few.

In 2019, on a leap of faith, I took a bold risk and ventured down to South Florida. Driven by a passion for travel and wanting to roam the globe, I brought my talents to the world of super yachts. Specializing in luxury table styling, floristry, and event design, I have had the pleasure of working with multiple high-profile clients, politicians, and global brands. However, after a few years at sea, I felt a yearning to return to my ultimate passion, creating beautiful, meaningful and memorable events for others.

Owning my own firm has always been a goal of mine and in March 2020, I officially launched my boutique event planning and design firm, ROAM Home + Events. We specialize in a variety of services including weddings, social and corporate events along with offering interior e-design and styling services.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Launching a small business, particularly during the COVID pandemic, has certainly come with its unique set of up’s and downs. Many clients have had to postpone their events multiple times and now we are seeing such a boom in the industry that all vendors are trying to simply keep their heads above water. Struggles with vendor availability and product sourcing are just the tip of the iceberg. Each day has been a learning curve. I am a one woman team who only brings in assistance on event days. Which means, every other day I am handling everything from accounting, logistics, back-end management, customer service, inquiry responses, client management – the list is endless. I absolutely love it though because I am so passionate about this industry and I’ve put my blood, sweat and tears into making ROAM an up and coming name in the South Florida wedding and events industry.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
ROAM Home + Events is a boutique luxury creative firm specializing in a variety of services including weddings, social and corporate events along with offering interior e-design and styling services. We offer both Partial and Full-Service event planning and design packages for South Florida and beyond!

What sets ROAM apart is the innate ability to handle any and all logistics challenges, my “little black book” of stellar vendor connections across the United States, along with an impeccable eye for detail. The nomadic nature of my movements around the globe have inspired my curated, eclectic, yet timeless and romantic aesthetic. Using layers of texture and details to create personalized, refined and high style events and interiors. After all, the design is in the details! Equally as important to the design are the logistics. My 8+ years of event experience ensures that every detail is planned and executed to perfection! At ROAM, we believe that expectations should always be exceeded and that impeccable service, attention to detail, absolute professionalism, and approachable luxury are always in style.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in a rural area of Baltimore County, Maryland known as the “Hereford Zone”. My childhood memories are filled with riding horses with my friends, playing kick the can with the neighborhood kids until sundown, Friday night’s under the lights at our high-school football games. I really had the “all-American” upbringing and it was the absolute best way to grow up.
