Conversations with Dania Diaz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dania Diaz.

Hi Dania, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Here is a Flashback to my sweet 16 era. While watching TV, I see an ad for real estate. It’s a guy I recognize because his billboard was right off of the highway. “From A to Z, Ask Askowitz, for all your real estate needs.” I thought, wow that guy is a celebrity, I see him everywhere. A year later my mom put her house up for sale. It was a Buyer’s market and our unremarkable real estate agent just couldn’t sell it. So one day she couldn’t make it because she happened to be a part time agent, my mom’s friend from work. So I showed it, after all it was my house. I showcased a pretty standard house like it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. “Here is the skylight that I just love so much when using the bathroom. You see this closet, it goes all the way wall to wall. Look let me show you how it connects”, I said as I stepped in through it. Those Buyer’s said because of my story they chose our home over 3 other good contenders. “The house had good energy”, they said. The agent immediately called me and said, “You should get your license when you turn 18. I will get you a job!” I was most definitely interested! Then when I was 18 and working in a local pizza joint, a generous well tipping realtor always came in to eat. I told him my story of my “real estate deal”. He asked me one day, “What are you doing during the days when you are not working here?” I said, “I just went to register for college but I am not sure what to study.” He said, “I thought you were interested in becoming a realtor.” That’s when I told him, “Yeah I’ll just do that part time.” He laughed the biggest laugh, as if it was the funniest thing he had ever heard. He invited me to come join his team. I spent a year shadowing him before I was motivated to get my license. Then after a few sales and moving into being on my own the market collapsed. I didn’t know what to do. So I became a training coordinator and head bartender at a local outback steakhouse here in Kendall. I learned customer service 101 and how to deal with so many different types of people. Having a customer leave happy when all didn’t go so well teached me how to come up with solutions to make people feel good about the experience regardless. I always kept up my license and started to build a database there. I did rentals and sales to friends and family here and there. I always dreamed of being a successful realtor. So one day I woke up on a quest to make that happen. I googled the top real estate company in Pinecrest, a very expensive estate home area. Low and behold guess who showed up in my search, you guessed it, the man I thought was a celebrity, Anthony Askowitz. I made a few appointments for interviews with other companies but his appointment was first. He kinda hopped in the room with a great big smile radiating so much enthusiasm. I liked him more in person than the ads I saw. I handed him my resume and he was taken aback. “I gotta say I am impressed. No one brings a resume to come on board as a realtor.” I blushed. He said he saw something in me. RE/MAX was an investment though. It was a brand power I had to invest in. I knew if I wanted to make it, I would have to jump all in. I signed on the spot and cancelled all my other interviews. I am so glad I did because making that decision has propelled me to become the agent I am today. A multiple award winner and the holder of Florida’s most prestigious award for RE/MAX international. The sole ‘Above the Crowd’ Award for 2020 in the entire state of Florida. A true honor is what the CEO of RE/MAX Adam Contos told me himself at our global convention this year!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
An oak tree was once a small acorn. Rome wasn’t built in a day. If you conceive it and believe it, you can achieve it. Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out. This was the foundation. Setting everything up was challenging but I kept on reading positivity. I sacrificed time with friends and family to build my business infrastructure. I ate, slept and breathed this for a couple years before anything really happened. I continued to invest in the RE/MAX brand, our company culture, massive training, countless seminars and conferences until I finally started gaining momentum. My office manager said to me, ”Aren’t you glad you didn’t give up?” I sure am because the beginning was rough. I think what helped me is I really believed I could do it.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Build your footprint. Create your digital billboard. Create the image you want to portray. Know that everything you do is like planting a seed. With water, sunlight and faith, the seeds will sprout. Before you know it, you will have planted a bountiful garden. Always believe in your capabilities. Put forth maximum effort and go to every training you can. The first years for me were spent learning, so I could build a business that is earning.
