Today we’d like to introduce you to Marialys Maestre.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Marialys. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always had a passion for art and beauty since I was young, but I was never allowed to wear makeup until I was fifteen. I remember watching so many youtube videos after that and practicing on myself. Then, my friends and family started to notice I was getting good at it and so they asked me to do their makeups for events they were attending (obviously free of charge). My last year of high school, my mom asked me to work for her beauty salon. Soon after, I made myself an Instagram and built a clientele through there.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a makeup artist, you encounter so many challenges and obstacles along the way. Since our services depend on people, we have certain expectations from them. I expect for people to have consideration of my time. There will be times where my patience could be tested with people but, I always stay professional and do not let it get to me. You learn along the way what kind of clients are worth taking. I am very thankful for my clients and that I have never had a bad experience along the way.
What should we know about MakeupByMarialys? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I recently just graduated from Florida International University with my bachelors in Business Administration. My full-time job is makeup. I specialize in makeup for bridal parties, quinceañeras, photoshoots, etc. I am mostly known for my professionalism, kindness, and craft. I am most proud of where I am and where I’m heading. I would never in a million years have imagined to be where I am now. I’ve noticed no matter how much you plan life, it never turns out how you imagine it to but, that is the beauty of it all. I feel that every makeup artist has their own artistry and style. But, what sets me apart is my way of making a full face of makeup look very natural at the same time.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The most important advice I would give any woman starting any career is to stay passionate, focused, and faithful to her work. We all have our good and bad days, but that doesn’t determine our life. Whenever you feel discouraged, think about all the positive experiences and happiness your career has brought and all the doors waiting for you to open. I have felt hopeless and have even second-guessed myself if the career I chose is the right one. But, I always remind myself that my passion led me to this road and quitting is not an option.
