Conversations with the Inspiring Hen Siso

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hen Siso.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a passion for music. Ever since I can remember, I have been attracted to the rhythm. I remember picking up a Darbuka Drum for the first time and playing different rhythms by ear and how much joy and happiness it would bring me. Growing up in Israel to a Moroccan family has really shaped my style of music selection and production. I think that adding culture and middle eastern rhythm to house music makes it very special and unique. I continued my music development and started to play guitar and piano by ear and absolutely loved it. In my younger years in Israel, I found pleasure in playing with the city band and the high school band which kept me very busy.

Following my 2-year service at the IDF army, I decided to visit my brothers who lived in Miami and fell in love with the city, culture, vibe and that is where I fell in love with house music. I moved to the US and started working as a hairdresser but always kept music a part of my life. I had a great opportunity to play guitar and sing at an event at Hard Rock Hollywood so I put all my energy and effort into this show and it was a success. The door opened, I stepped through and kept working with Hard Rock. I then decided to sign up for DJ School and had even more fun with developing my music. slowly but surely, I became very comfortable DJing and had the instinct to add my touch to a saturated market of house music by Drumming while I DJ which made it so special and different. I found myself very quickly playing for big names, high-end events, night clubs, and weddings. I became the resident DJ for the Hard Rock Hollywood and it’s been my home for the past eight years. I left the job I had at the salon and decided to go all out, vomiting fully to my art and passion. I started producing my own music at my studio and having that ability is creating such an exciting stage in my career. It is my driving force that I get to make my own style and express my feeling and emotions through music.

Every time I go to work, I feel so much gratitude because, to me, it doesn’t feel like work. I do what I love and I am exactly where I need to be. I am excited about the future. It’s going to be so much fun!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think I have been very lucky on this road. I think that being a woman has benefited me most of the time. Being a female DJ who can drum and have a fun vibe is a very different feel and vibe than my male DJ counterparts. Of course, I’ve had some rough times where I didn’t have any work coming my way, but it was mainly because of my energy focus and intention. I wasn’t fully there and I had other things on my mind: I didn’t believe that I could be successful in this industry until I changed the way I think.

My advice to other women who are just starting their journey is to believe in themselves and see the success, feel the love from the crowd, and know that you are good enough.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a female DJ, Drummer that plays Open Format music with a touch of house and sprinkle some Darbuka Drumming on top. This makes me sound more energetic and fun. I always make sure that the music I play fits the vibe, environment, and crowd. I love that my sets can be surprising, nostalgic, and feel new all at the same time.

I am so proud to be a thriving female DJ and producer. I am proud to show the world that we are amazing. Before every show, I make a little prayer and ask for joy and happiness for everyone who listens to my music and I always see the best results.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Really enjoy the moment and be grateful, believe in yourself and wish good for everyone.
