Conversations with the Inspiring Gina De Lucia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina De Lucia.

Gina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Like a lot of people, I chose a major in college based on job security. I graduated from FSU in 2009 when the economy and job market were in bad shape so I take the safe route. For me, that looked like getting a degree in accounting because I knew I’d find a job. I began working at an accounting firm and basically went through the motions – I worked long hours, studied and passed the CPA exam, and took on more responsibility. All the while, knowing that the career and environment were completely wrong for me. But like so many people, I stuck with it for longer than I would have liked. I skipped around from job to job, before finally landing in a corporate environment that ultimately led to pursuing other passions. While working there, I made the decision to explore my more creative side through my love of food and travel. I started my blog, Local Baysics, to help locals and natives discover a hidden side of Tampa Bay, especially the food scene. This new exploration led me to find a deep love for photography and writing. Along the way, I was exposed to an entirely different community of people that opened me up to opportunities I never could have imagined (like this one!). I discovered that there were other avenues out there for me and I left my accounting career behind to pursue freelance writing and take my blog to new levels. During this pivotal moment in my life, I began to educate myself on entrepreneurship and personal development. What I ultimately discovered was that what I truly wanted was to help other creatives and purpose-driven women grow businesses that fulfilled them. So, over the next year, I enrolled in a life coaching program and launched my newest endeavor, Gina De Lucia Coaching. Today, I help women grow sustainable businesses with greater intention and less overwhelm by clearing the clutter both in their business and their mindset. It took a lot of trust in myself, hard work and dedication, but I finally feel like I’ve found my place in this world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it hasn’t been smooth, but it certainly was a long road to get finally get where I am today. The biggest advice I could give to someone is to trust the process. Success doesn’t come quickly and it doesn’t come easy, as I’m still learning. After going through a series of jobs where I never felt like myself, I only wish I would have listened to my gut feelings earlier. If something doesn’t feel right whether, in your career or your life, it likely isn’t.

What should we know about Gina De Lucia Coaching and Local Baysics? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My coaching business today centers around helping women feel rooted in the foundation of their business and to focus on being more intentional in their day-to-day tasks. My overall mission really stems from wanting women to move forward with a clearer vision of success in a way that energizes them to leave their positive impact on the world. There are far too many people out there that get bogged down with what they “should” be doing, rather than what feels aligned with their values and who they are as a business and person. My collaborative coaching offers a different way to look at entrepreneurship. Our society likes to glorify the “hustle” and having a packed busy schedule, so I’m trying to help women redefine that in their businesses. Being more intentional really means that you have a choice about the decisions you make in your business and that the life you set out to design for yourself doesn’t have to look like anybody else’s life.

Other than that, I still occasionally write for Local Baysics when the right opportunities come my way. My city, St. Pete, FL. is ever-growing and I still enjoy highlighting the more local happenings in the area.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
Close to me, my grandmother has always been a big inspiration and reminder to be happy with what you have. Now that I’m exploring a more meaningful and fulfilled life with less, I’m realizing how much of her I have in me. She was from a very large family and never really attached much worth the material items and that’s I strive for these days.
