Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristen Smith.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cristen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been in the beauty/hair industry for eight years. I went to beauty school and started assisting at the salon where I’m currently a full time hairstylist.
I put in a lot of work to be where I’m at today that includes education classes and attending shows. Social media wasn’t really as big as it is now when I started in the industry, so I had to work really hard to get clients in my chair.
Over the years, Instagram became an amazing business tool and helped me grow my business and my clientele!
I love what I do and I enjoying connecting with people on a personal level. I have met so many amazing people through my job and through social media!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was definitely not a smooth road and I’m still hitting the bumps along the way! It just gets easier when you learn how to handle certain situations.
Like any hair professional, I’ve made mistakes but I have learned so much from those mistakes.
I’ve had people who have been in the earlier part of my journey that really tested my patience and made me feel like a failure.
You can’t beat yourself up. Take those mistakes and those people and learn how to not repeat them and how to do things differently. Mistakes help your growth process.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a hairstylist who specializes mostly in balayage color, dimensional balayage and lived in hair!
I work mostly on long hair or shoulder length hair.
I’m most proud of always continuing my education and wanting to better my skill set.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I try to always connect on a personal level with my guests.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Don’t stop learning and don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is a lesson, not a roadblock.
