Conversations with Carmen Sandyeggo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Sandyeggo.

Hi Carmen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always knew I wanted to be a singer and a songwriter, I just second-guessed myself way too much. I began to release my own music on SoundCloud in 2014, then took a break when I had my son in 2017. While learning to become a mother, I felt like I lost my way with the music because I started to “settle” with my 9-5. Fear is something that holds a lot of us back and my biggest fear was failing, but my son is my reason, he was the push I needed to really chase this music. I took a leap of faith and released a small album, “Business & Company,” on all platforms in March of 2020 and have not looked back or let up since. If you don’t know who Carmen Sandyeggo is yet, you will.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is and will always be bumpy, I roll with the punches. I’ve had losses, wins but not a single regret. As an independent artist, I wear a lot of hats and at times, it can be very overwhelming. I struggle with anxiety so staying level headed and grounded is crucial. Trying to manage a real job and still make time for music is a SKILL, but I am doing the damn thing. Make time for the things you love!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer and a songwriter out of Broward County. I use my platform as space where I can advocate for women. Through my music, I am able to share my truths and personal experiences that anyone can relate to, my intentions are genuine and I’m here to share a sound that can resonate with any ear. I am most proud of my growth and I am not even who I am yet. I’m not just a singer; I’m a writer that sings, I’m “That Lady”, a woman who does it all. I am a mother, a wife and I still work full time, I won’t let any setbacks hinder me from chasing the goal and neither should anyone else.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Like a sponge, I’m someone who loves to get as much knowledge as I can. If I could share any advice, it would be to write it down, do your research and be open to learning instead of leading all the time. Eventually, you’ll get so comfortable with your craft, you take the lead.
