Community Highlights: Meet Yehonatan Banayan of Earth’s Edge Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yehonatan Banayan.

Hi Yehonatan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I never planned on doing what I do, but I knew that I was passionate about people living a better life. I started off as a psychotherapist and found myself working in the world of eating disorders, disordered eating, drug addictions, and trauma before I knew enough about the complexity. With time, I learnt that the mental health field, much like the medical field, is still a new and experimenting field. I noticed how rarely people actually get well, even with going to their therapists, or even after receiving treatment on a treatment center level of care. Curiosity and my desire to help others prompted me to learn more about any practice that can take my clients from their current states to one of wellness. With time, my approach became meshed with a more holistic perspective, leading me to find approaches that were sometimes atypical yet far more effective than what I learnt in therapy schools. I also found a circle of colleagues who specialized in the treatment of addiction issues, binge eating disorders, anorexia disorder treatment, and general holistic eating disorder treatment. We often worked alongside together due to our effectiveness in getting our clients’ positive results. I joked that I should open a wellness center to help others in a systematic way. When COVID hit, I felt it was time to create something virtual to help those who were at home and still needed help. By the time the country opened up again, we found ourselves with some amazing clients getting really positive results and in timelines that were quicker than what people would find with therapy alone and even in the care of a treatment center. Best of all, our clients left truly happy. I now support the same group of people who have been with us through most of our clients, we work together and meet as a team on a weekly basis to see how we all can continually evolve our process to be even smoother and more fulfilling for both our clients and us as a team.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I definitely did not understand what direction the entrepreneurial road would take and there were many times I seriously considered closing my business. There was a transition where we had a large amount of team members and no clients. It was a time of pressure for me to get clear what I wanted out of this business and my role on this planet. I got deep into meditation and yoga at that time, and I believe that those, along with large doses of stillness, were what allowed me to keep my company and sanity alive.

We’ve been impressed with Earth’s Edge Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Earth’s Edge Wellness is a business that focuses on people with eating disorders and food and body issues, such as binge eating disorder, anorexia disorder, bulimia disorder, other specified eating disorder as well others. Our approach is holistic as it needs to be. We work creatively with each person. So, we begin by getting to know what makes our client tick, not just the “disorder” or the body or food issue. What makes them happy? When was the last time they danced and why? When did they stop dancing through life? What are they passionate about? What do they stand for? I am a firm believer that “You cannot treat someone without seeing them as a person” and that sustainable results require you to look beyond the disorder and into what makes the person function as a whole. What sets apart is that no one is helping people out in the holistic way that we are or working as a holistic company. When I created our website, I actually did not have another company to compare myself to see how to market ourselves. Whenever we meet as a team, we begin our meeting with a meditation or breathing practice to prime our minds and breath towards a focused and fruitful meeting for our clients. I am most proud about our success rate: over 90 percent of the clients that complete our treatment resolve what they came in for treatment for. They also are happier and living a more full life as a side effect of the holistic approach that we take. What I want people to know is: don’t delay your happiness. Everything can wait, but your happiness cannot. We offer a powerful way for you to not only get rid of your body and food issues but also leave you truly happy, so you never need to look back. We offer 1:1 treatment for all food and body issues and offer a refund for the remainder of the month if you don’t see results within the first week.

We also offer retreats for people with eating disorders, disordered eating, and other food and body issues as well as personalized detox retreats for people who want to get better but need a way to get there.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I have learned is that I don’t need to pursue being significant to help others. In fact, allowing myself to be insignificant and trust in the universe allows me to go farther and take more risks than I would go on my own.
