Community Highlights: Meet Terell Killings of M.O.R.E. Partners

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terell Killings.

Hi Terell, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I was born and raised in Miami, Fl. My primary residence was in Miami Gardens but my grandparents and the majority of my family lived in Liberty City where I spent a majority of my time growing up. As an adolescent, my lens was exposed to a lot of different things spending time in both areas, both of what shape me today. My mother and father were both educators and worked their best to provide my brother and sister a better life than what they had, yet they always kept us grounded.

My siblings and I were always enriched with family, my parents never shied away from who they were and the area they grew up in. I attended Miami Northwestern as a scholar-athlete where I would graduate with a 4.5 gpa while also winning two state championships in football. I was allotted the opportunity to attend Howard University following on a football scholarship serving as a four year starter and captain on their football team. It was there I would meet my wife as well. I moved back to Miami following graduating from Howard University and began my career in marketing for a mobile marketing company. I then transitioned into a role as a sales supervisor at Coca-Cola, however, I knew deep down I wasn’t truly fulfilled. What would garner my interest early in life was homes. I come from a lineage of strong hard working African Americans. Both sides of my family originated from Overtown and then moved to Liberty City as they would take advantage of home ownership for the first time.

In fact, my grandfather built his home in Liberty City (which is one of the properties I still own currently). Hearing these stories growing up as to how nothing was given and everything earned on both sides of my family gave me somewhat of an endearment towards property. I was able to see how generational wealth and transfer of ownership can help your family for years to come.

So I left corporate America and took a leap of faith and got my real estate license joining Elite Realty Partners Inc. managed by Tenisha Williams. I would then learn so much about real estate that the experience thrust me into positions I never imagined. In a short span I have helped countless of families that were once denied the ability of experiencing home ownership now experience the true fruits of their labor in owning a home.

I’ve sold millions in volume in real estate but the most rewarding part is helping people that look just like me overcome the invisible barriers in the real estate market used to prevent further economic advancement for minorities like myself. But that’s another story for another day. I have further advanced in the real estate industry in just a few years becoming a real estate broker, now coaching and training real estate agents on how to grow and scale their business in a short period of time which is rewarding as I get to pour into people and see the positive results.

I have also been blessed with learning how to acquire real estate and understand the appreciation and equity property carries over the years. In a short period of time real estate has provided me the opportunity to own multiple properties across the nation building a million dollar real estate portfolio along with my partner Rasheed Hope. My mission is to continue helping those that don’t quite see their potential and the future real estate can create for their family for years to come.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it wasn’t smooth in real estate starting out at all, in fact, something many don’t know is before my success I failed miserably. Starting out after leaving Coca Cola I bet on myself and invested in a horrible deal primarily due to working alongside a dishonorable and dishonest general contractor in Houston, Tx losing over six figures on that deal and almost depleting everything I’ve ever saved in life.

The mistakes I made in retrospect also taught me everything I needed to know what not to do and how to move correctly. It was an expensive lesson but a lesson nonetheless. However real estate once again saved me as I started selling real estate to build my capital back up and give me another opportunity to invest in real estate but this time invest correctly. I am grateful that hurdle didn’t stop me from getting the things I envisioned, if anything it made me better.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about M.O.R.E. Partners?
MORE Partners stands for “minorities of real estate”.

I started this company with the basic principles to show and teach others that look like me that you can acquire and invest in real estate and be successful while also employing and helping people that look like you. I specialize in purchasing property primarily in targeted urban areas and revitalizing dilapidated homes to rent at affordable rates to create sustainable living for families in Miami Dade and Broward county.

I am known for helping people giving them jobs around my properties when they can’t find work elsewhere, simply giving.

What sets me apart from others is that I truly care about my people, I want to see us in a much better position that we are in because I truly know we are capable of it.

My most proud brand wise is the resilience of my company starting out as a failure to now a multi-million dollar portfolio is what makes me proud, the ability to stay vigilant when times were hard and your dreams are questioned.

I want readers to know that if they are in a tough spot in real estate I have the company and resources to help retain ownership or provide what is fairly due to homeowners in urban communities. My company is about doing what’s right and what’s fair.
