Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawna Brioux.
Hi Shawna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was born in Scarborough, Canada, and moved to Hollywood, Florida when I was about 3 years old. Most of my childhood was spent in South Florida until my mother and I moved back to Toronto during middle school. During high school, I took an internship at a music video/production company in downtown Toronto.
I filled the role of production assistant and casting director. I fell in love with the industry and planned on going to film school to become a screenwriter & director. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend due to an unexpected move back to Hollywood.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had many challenges with my citizenship when I came back to the United States. I could not work or go to school so my film school aspirations were put on hold. By the time the dust settled and I received my American citizenship, I had a baby and had to reconsider my career choice.
I decided to go to nursing school because I love the medical field and the job security is unmatched. But again, I put my dreams on the back burner. Eventually, after being burnt out by the healthcare industry, I decided that it was time to go back to my authentic self. I then created Smokke Show and the rest is history!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Smokke Show?
Smokke Show is not only a brand but a movement of creatives. All of the swimwear is designed by myself and you will not find these same pieces available anywhere else, guaranteed. A limited edition at its finest. Each piece is eco-friendly and the high-quality material is made from ocean salvage. Smokke Show represents a sustainable, timeless swimsuit collection that embraces all women to feel fierce and confident in their skin.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory is cutting up all of my clothes to create new outfits out of them. I also love reminiscing about my bedroom wall that was covered from ceiling to floor & wall to wall in cutout magazine pictures of fashion and artists! My mom would get so mad about both.
