Community Highlights: Meet Lisa Seid of Mindful Life Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Seid.

Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My desire to help empower others to overcome life’s challenges really began when I was a child. I grew up in a chaotic home fueled by alcoholism, family conflict, and violence. It caused me a lot of pain, anxiety, and depression and I often felt confused as to why things were the way they were. Though I didn’t know it at the time, it was out of desire to better understand these dynamics with the hopes of helping that I stumbled upon my calling. In high school I took my first psychology class and finally felt like I was on track to getting the answers I had so desperately wanted. When it came time to choose a major, I knew I wanted to pursue psychology, so I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Central Florida and then a Master of Science degree in Family Therapy at Nova Southeastern University.

During my initial years in agency work, I supported many of those experiencing family dysfunction like I had endured and became well-versed in trauma-work. I went on to become a clinical supervisor of a community-based program and mentored other clinicians in their work of serving others. However, I often struggled with self-care which led to chronic stress and ultimately burnout two times before the age of thirty. I eventually realized I needed to make a huge change in my life as how I was living was simply not sustainable for my own wellbeing and transitioned into private practice. It was here that I truly honed my craft as a trauma specialist becoming certified with the EMDR International Association (one of the leading trauma therapies) as well as taking many other trainings to help those heal anxiety, Complex-PTSD, and dissociation. I am profoundly grateful to be where I am today and inspired each and every day as I see others transform and reclaim their lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest struggles was giving myself permission to disconnect from the workaholic, chronic stress-fueled lifestyle I had been living for so many years. At one point, I realized I had not taken a vacation in almost three years. I had to really learn to be mindful of what was important in life, how I spent my energy, and ways to ensure I would never let myself get to that point of being so depleted I would burnout again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I own a mental health group practice in Fort Lauderdale specializing in anxiety, stress, and trauma. The culture of my company is sharing how we can all be more mindful in life whether internally or externally so that people can be clear, calm, and connected to their highest self. I want to show others that though they may have been living a certain way (often in chaos) or struggling with things from their past, those things do not have to define them. They can break free of these patterns and be empowered to create new ways of being that align with them in the deepest and most meaningful ways to love life now. I truly strive to embody this as much as I can for myself as well as my staff personally and professionally.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’m grateful to the many professors and colleagues that supported my journey in psychology and mentorship as I learned to embrace my profession, in particular my specialty as a trauma therapist.
