Today we’d like to introduce you to James Kennett III.
Hi James, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am 25 years old and was born and raised in South Florida. Growing up, I always wanted to be a firefighter like my great grandfather. Once I graduated high school, I enrolled into EMT and paramedic school and got my Paramedic certification. I then went full-time to the fire academy to become a professional firefighter, and four months after completing all the schooling, testing, physical tests, psych tests, and interviews, I got hired by a local fire department in South Florida. I love my job and think it is the best job in the world! There is never a normal day at the station with all the different types of medical calls we respond to. With calls of accidents and fires, there is always an obstacle we must fix and overcome to help our citizens who call us for help. I have always enjoyed overcoming challenges, working with a team, working with my hands, and working under pressure.
Being a firefighter/paramedic checks all those boxes off, but I have always wanted to work on my own thing and provide a service or product that would change and better people’s lives in one way or another. As a firefighter, I have 48hrs off after every 24hr shift so there is a lot of time to have a side business. I had been watching YouTube videos and seeing ads to sell on Amazon. I took a course and watched all the YouTube videos on how to sell on Amazon for about two months, right before the lockdown happened because of Covid-19. Once we were locked in our homes and had no outside distractions, I thought it was the perfect time to focus on finding a product that was worth selling and I would enjoy using myself. I found a baby product that also could be used for pet owners. I found a product that fixed a consumer problem. It is very frustrating trying to wash your pet that will not sit still as your knees and elbows ache in pain from the hard surfaces of the tub and floor. As well, trying to rush bathing your baby because of how uncomfortable you are bending over the tub wears on you. Also, all your child wants to do is have fun playing with their toys in the tub.
These types of moments should be enjoyed in comfort, especially for the parents with their little ones, because these are the special moments you always want to cherish and remember. That is where the idea of the Comfy Splash came from. It is a memory foam bath kneeler and elbow rest to provide the ultimate comfort for bath time. After six long months of working with manufactures in China, figuring out the design, dimensions, inspections, and freight options, Covid-19 changed many aspects. The pandemic slowed down my shipment to the U.S. and caused Amazon to put restrictions on shipments, taking pictures, and creating listings. Regardless of the limitations, the Comfy Splash finally went live on Amazon! I feel very accomplished to have created a product despite some complications along the way. It is definitely a product that has already been a game-changer for those that use it. My customers can now enjoy those precious moments of bath time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would love to say everything has been perfect, was easy to set up, and started with a low start-up cost of only $100. I was even able to buy my first exotic car like some gurus on YouTube trying to sell you their course will say… Ha-ha, but it has been quite the opposite. It has been a work in progress, and I have enjoyed every step of the way. I have taken a lesson away from every setback I have encountered. You must accept the fact that in life, anything worth doing is going to be hard because as they say, “If it were easy everyone would do it.” Running your own business can be frustrating at times – miscommunication with your manufacture, working long hours, working late into the night when you must wake up early the next day, and making the wrong choice that costs you extra money. However, it is all part of the game.
I have learned and grown more in the last year from this business than from any other moment in my life. Getting out there talking to people, overcoming products shipment delays to the US, Covie-19 causing delays, Amazon changing their rules, creating a product, setting up inspections on the other side of the world, doing Zoom meetings with strangers, asking questions in Facebook groups, passing out flyers to strangers, learning how to market online, editing, and filming my own photos and videos…. has been one monumental life lesson. The list goes on with the number of things I had to learn and continued to learn from my mistakes. I am proud of the fact that I pushed through a lot of setbacks and obstacles in a time that no one on Earth has experienced before because of Covid-19. All the amazing feedback I have received about the Comfy Splash has made all that hard work worth it.

VIBESH is based out of Miami and is an online ecommerce business. We strived to create a product that will be a GAME CHANGER for parents who need to bathe their young children. I am very passionate about health and wellness. I have always been very active playing sports growing up and working out daily with my dad. Since I was young, he passed down the importance of weight training, eating right, and setting personal goals. The lessons I learned from both of my parents over the years have given me self-confidence. They taught me the importance of discipline, to help people, to always be kind, to push through the pain, and to set huge goals. I would like to eventually share this passion with people by creating products for health and wellness or to become a personal trainer to help people reach their goals and better their lives. Whether that is losing weight to fit in that wedding dress, helping someone get back into shape so they can play with their grandkids, or helping someone get shredded to help them with their self-confidence… it is a future goal. Not to sound cliché, but “You only have one life to live,” so I want to try a little bit of everything that I enjoy and find interesting. That way, I will have no regrets in the end.
