Today we’d like to introduce you to The Copper Tones.
The Copper Tones, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Dyllan: Stefanie and I have known each other since middle school, but we never wrote songs together until a few years ago. We were both tired with each of our own musical projects at the time and decided to start working together. Then we added Andy on drums and were a trio for about a year until we met Dan outside of a bar in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Dan had just left his last band and was searching for something new. We had already been looking for a fourth and final member to round out our sound, so Dan joined. Here we are four years later, and we’ve had three successful US tours, a Germany tour, released a full-length album, and have a second album on the way soon!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We call our sound “Soulgrass.” It’s basically what happens when you have 4 musicians with different backgrounds trying to make folk/Americana/bluegrass music, but end up somewhere new and unique instead. Stefanie’s voice is pretty soulful, and Dyllan is the one with the most bluegrass influence, so we married those words together. But to us, part of our sound is also for the fact that we’ve got a drummer with a punk rock background, a lead guitar player with a blues-rock and harder rock background, so even when we start off writing a song we think might be folky or Americana, it still will end up somewhere off that mark. We weren’t sure what that was, so we named it ourselves! Soulgrass!
We take inspiration from our home, South Florida. We love it here and have a few songs about it. We also write songs about other topics that are just really important to us. Whether that’s politics, self-improvement, love, or anything else that comes to us. Sometimes we write about something that we just needed to get out for our own therapy. We hope that others get the same enjoyment from our music that we do. We know we love doing it! We hope others love it too, and we hope they take whatever they can from our music and it adds a little something to their lives.
How can artists connect with other artists?
Daniel: I think it’s important to support your contemporaries in whatever it is you do. For example, I think there are so many great bands in South Florida. I love going to see them play. Sometimes they even provide me some inspiration. If you support the other artists in your community, they will support you back, you’ll make friends, and you’ll never be lonely!
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
