Check Out Lynn Garcia’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Garcia.

Hi Lynn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started with a dream to live my life as an artist. Ever since I was a little all I ever did was create. I remember countless afternoons at my grandmother’s house where I would eagerly pick up a stack of lined paper or any lose sheet I could find and immerse myself in drawing. Over time as my art developed and matured, I knew that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Throughout the years, I have been honored to have met and work with some very talented artists; some locally and others abroad. It was during these times that I was inspired to kick start my own style of art and make it into something that was bold and different. It was meeting and networking with so many amazing artists that fueled my passion to really pursue a career as a freelance artist.

About two years ago, I made the decision to quit the 9-5, and start working for myself as a freelance artist & designer. At first it was challenging because I had to be creative in coming up with ways to make money. I realized that social media had become for me a very useful tool in marketing my work and developing clientele. It has also helped in promoting my brand!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is never an easy one, however it has been a rewarding and enriching experience. It is being able everyday to overcome your inner critique and say to yourself “You got this” and just keep on going despite difficulties ahead.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Miami-Based Artist/Designer/Muralist who specializes in traditional and surrealistic drawing and painting along with graphic design. My personal style is inspired by popular culture, urban art, and personal experiences.

My artwork consists of juxtaposing realistically rendered faces and figures with chaotic yet fanciful scenes of cartoon characters and doodles. Each central subject has a certain appearance reflecting this imaginary world.

I am most proud of my unique style that has continuously evolved throughout the years; pushing artistic barriers with the intention of creating a hallucinatory effect for the viewer.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The art industry in the next five to ten years won’t be so radically different than how it is currently, however with the advancement of technology, art will be significantly impacted by it.

There will always be a need to draw, paint, sculpt etc., but with aid of technology it will be a more transformative process for the artist as for the viewer.

Art will continue to progress towards interactive media. For example, in the last six years ARTECHOUSE, the nation’s first art museum dedicated to the intersection of art, science and technology, has continued to redefine and push the barriers of where art can go digitally and interactively. It is a perfect example of how the art industry is evolving in this post digital age.

Because of this shift, interactive and experiential art will take a greater precedence in the future because people like to be involved in the things they can share. Therefore this will create an even bigger demand for social media and new social media platforms.
