Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivette Lopez.
Hi Ivette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Ivette Lopez, and I am an artist. I focus on abstract art because I love to be able to express myself freely, and I feel as though abstract is what allows me to do that. I am of Cuban descent and grew up in Miami, FL. Since I was young, I painted and had a very creative side, but as I got older, I put painting aside and went into fashion. I made the choice to put art on the back end and focus on providing for my family. I always knew it was my passion and what I was meant to do, but excuses always came along, and I never fully focused on it until the pandemic started. When I was in, I decided to just paint since I had the time, but as the days went on, I continued to paint more and more and soon realized how much I missed it. Starting in June of 2020, I decided this is what I was meant to do, and I was ready to pursue my dream. So here I am, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have been painting full time about 2 1/2 years and I have good months and bad months. I would say that the first year for me was the hardest. Not knowing what to expect was very hard for me. All my life I believed that having a 9 to 5 job was security. It was really hard to adjust. What has helped me overcome the fear of the unknown is reading and journaling. Now I really try to live in the moment and enjoy what I love to do and that is my painting and creating. You have to believe in yourself.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an abstract artist; I love being creative. I love challenges. I love trying new things. I call my art “honest art” it is based on emotion and inspiration, sometimes from places that I have been to, things that I have seen and felt. For me, painting abstract is liberating. Abstract art is like being free to become whoever you want. It gives you the freedom to explore the artwork and assign your own meaning to the piece.
Alright, so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I did my first collaboration with The Wardrobe, a beautiful well curated boutique located in the heart of Coconut Grove, Fl. We created a one-of-a-kind series of 10 accent pillows, hand-painted original art. This for me was a really exciting project. Would love to do more of home decor one of a kind pieces. I also did a line of candles with skandleous candles. It is exciting and fun doing collaboration. I’m looking forward to doing more of them.
