Today we’d like to introduce you to Ignacio Orellana.
Hi Ignacio, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I just could say that whatever I am doing today has been a result of many small accidents and many little victories when chasing those dreams but everything is connected to music.
Music got to be the starring of this story because it is always present and everything moves around it. Of course, it is me the one moving throughout space in time to accomplish anything but yeah… The work done throughout these years has been plenty of ups and downs but I guess what makes you happy in the end is that you did it.
I have been and still, am a drummer, tv producer, photographer, videographer, handyman, waiter, and many other little things that are super common to live and thrive in this life but I guess if you were to ask me what I am deep inside I am a dreamer and a father and a husband.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I guess this will depend on every single person and their aspirations. I have always been someone that will take on a mission (a personal mission that is) and prepare myself for what comes next.
For example… I obtained my college degree on TV when everything was analog… I was editing videos with BETA max, HI8, S-VHS, etc. so the next step was to learn about computers I studied that and got my diploma about arming and disarming computers, then… learn how to edit video digitally, final cut pro, adobe premiere pro, etc… in the end everything started to develop within your self looking to be prepared to what is coming next.
So, yeah, the difficulties are always going to be present in front of you but it’s up to you to jump over them or go through them with your education and your willingness to overcome any obstacles that life puts in front of you.
And today’s day 2023… just google or find it on Youtube… there are millions of other people telling you what to do… and how to do it… so if you are not going to spend any time working on yourself… at least copy someone else’s… the idea is not to have any struggle and be successful… in the end, nothing is so difficult today for you not to be on top of your own game.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am originally from Chile and there I played drums, recorded albums, and went on tour. Since I moved here (more than 20 years ago…) I play drums & bass, I have recorded albums, and done tours plus I am a videographer and video editor for local bands and a photographer that can do almost anything after 15 years doing it…
I guess what makes me proud is that I have been able to do all of those things and I have had those small victories that make me want to keep doing them.
What sets me apart from the rest… I guess is the simple fact that I do not follow trends. So. if I get hired, I try to be 100% honest with myself and the one that has hired me for the job. I follow instructions on the spot to do my best to achieve their vision of them but also, I do my takes, the ones I feel I need to do… later I just send them both and see what they’ve picked out of the session. In most of the cases, I have 60-80% of my proposals.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Unfortunately, I don’t have any clue about it.
The reason for that is this… we spend today most of the time learning what is going on today and by the time we know it, something else has taken its place…so, we never get to occupy those new sets of skills because we are already learning the new trends. The adaptation of the media is almost parallel to the changes so if you do not know how to work your surroundings and equipment you won’t have a chance to continue.
Everyone is a photographer and a videographer today because of the phones, everyone can deliver a good quality video because of the apps and the AI that does it for them… so older people like me are just rare… and I considered myself out of time sometimes.
I hope for the best but everything out there seems to be about paying less for the same result as a professional. I have no clue what’s next.
