Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellonjsa Brutton.
Hi Ellonjsa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in the city of Fort Lauderdale Florida. I am the baby of three and the 3rd oldest of seven. To others, I grew up with the silver spoon/spoiled. I had it all when it came to the material things but I lack the love, affection, and attention of my loved ones. Causing me to look for these things outside of my home. I started looking up to people who motivated, life coaches, pastors, etc. and started to learn new things daily by watching YouTube videos, sermons, and a lot of books. In my process of learning, I was unlearning along of things as well as what I thought was good but later discovered was tradition.
I started applying what I learned and started experiencing things a little differently causing me to learn some more, I have my associate in medical science license medical assistant. After completing my degree I later pondered on I want to help people but not medically sick people so I decided to go a different route because seemingly I was always everyone goes to for advice to see things from a different perspective when it came to my friends and family. Since I love to know how people think and their perspective of things so I decided to pursue my master’s in psychology. I enjoy helping people think things through and helping them make better decisions.
I’ve also been a mentor to teens for almost four years after the passing of my grandma I took a break from doing so because I felt I was not in the proper mental state to do so. I still keep in contact with some of the girls just to let them know they can still count on me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been. I struggled a lot mentally and emotionally to make it to the stable place I am in now.
Emotionally I was broken through failed relationships, abandonment as a child, not being accepted as a young adult because everyone thought I thought I was “think I am all that”. When all along I was screaming for love. Losing loved ones and not properly grieving lead me to be mentally unable my decisions wasn’t always right, my connections to people was not either.
Most don’t know I wanted to give up so many times despite everyone always seeing me smiling. I’ve suffered suicidal thoughts I thought life was not worth living nobody wanted me and wouldn’t miss me if I were gone.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a person of motivation. I have a podcast where I discuss topics from my perspective. I have a book about preparing for love.
I am the most proud of overcoming childhood trauma and becoming my own person and not known for being someone else something. I am my own identity and I stand in it in confidence.
What sets me aside is I am who I am I don’t have to be anyone I am not I show up as myself and introduce myself with my handheld high. I don’t dwell on the past even though it made me who I am it’s not who I am.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
In my early adulthood, I was not a risk taker I was always a person who played things safe. I was afraid of taking risks because I feared failure without the knowledge of knowing to fail attempts make you successful. You fail yourself but do not take the risk because you cheat yourself out of the experience and actually making it.
Now that I have become more of a public figure my chances of risk taking are 10/10. I call them calculated risk. I call it that because I know it’s a risk but I know the results I want to yield with these risks.
