Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Jordan.
Oscar, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My journey began when I was required to take an art elective in my final year of high school. At the time, I had thought taking photography was going to be an insignificant part of my life, let alone my career. Much to my surprise, I developed an insatiable desire to take pictures. In my transition to college, I was faced with a dilemma when choosing my major. I had considered majoring in business, a field in which I received much support from friends and family to pursue. Yet, my heart yearned to follow my passion for photography regardless of the lack of support and constant criticism I received from those closest to me. I weighed the risk and the reward of each and the scale tipped in favor of my true love: Photography. Since 2013, I have never looked back! In the years since making my decision, I have experienced tremendous growth in my professional and personal life which is surely reflected in my large body of work.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Photography is a means for me to document my curiosities from the world around me. I want to make my photographs as genuine and authentic as possible. Defining every moment in time through photography, capturing my story in a rich and original way. My choice of subjects comes from my interest in things that have always been in and around my life. I enjoy taking photographs that capture candid moments and people in their natural environment. Making that connection with the subject is important for me because I want to capture their true self.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I define success as being recognized as one of the best in my field. With that being said, I understand that success is a process and that nothing happens overnight. As an artist, I am sure to face much criticism and opinions in regards to my work. Yet, it is my belief that the key to success is to embrace both positive and negative feedback and use the information I receive to continuously improve and evolve throughout my career. Achieving my definition of success will be the end result of my willingness to grow paired with my ability to execute on a daily basis!
