Today we’d like to introduce you to Haskel Auguste.
Haskel, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I haven’t always thought of myself as an artist, I just thought I was good at makeup. Sometimes we are so focused on what the exterior world is expecting from us that we don’t take the time to evaluate ourselves and recognize our God-given gifts and abilities. I’ve always seen myself as a passionate of colors and craft. As I a kid I use to play with the few makeup items my mom had and enjoyed crafting with anything I could find around the house. I remember building a whole house out of cardboard boxes and using dried coconut milk pulp with food coloring as grass. It puts a smile on my face really thinking about that. I’ve discovered the makeup world on YouTube about 4 years ago and started learning and practicing on myself, then my friends and family and in a matter of a year I was confident enough to assume the title of makeup artist and invested in a kit, later on, lighting and camera to capture the essence of my clients’ beauty. Now I am dedicated to evolving my artistry, build a strong and valuable clientele and empower women to embrace their inner and outer beauty.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I enhance features. God has created us to be his masterpiece, each and every one of us has been beautifully and wonderfully made. I want my client to be able to recognize themselves in the mirror by bringing out whichever aspect of their personality, either the simply natural, the free-spirited, the bold and vibrant. I can do it all.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
One lesson I wish I knew earlier and still need to constantly remind myself of is to be patient and enjoy the journey. Strive to be better by constantly working on your craft but at the same time enjoy the ride and don’t compare yourself to others. God has given us unique gifts and abilities, no one can do what we were anointed to do better ourselves.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can see my work on social media, and if you ever need someone to enhance your unique features in a warm and comfortable environment, I will be your lady.
