Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Marie
Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am 100% Jamaican born and raised and we are big on natural remedies and medicine. When my sister got pregnant, she wanted to have natural pregnancy and birth. So, she questioned everything before putting it into her body. That made me question a lot of the products I use on a daily basis including my skin care products. After realizing that many of the products contained ingredients that were controversial to skin care, I decided that I wanted to curated my own cleansing oil. I had no idea how I was going to do it but I knew I wanted it to be organic, vegan, chemical free and I wanted it to give back to skin because I thought it would be so cool to have a product that not only cleaned your skin but added nourishment as well. And that is how my brand KoKo Moon by Danielle Marie was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a slow and steady race with some obstacles yes. At first, I wanted it to be a cream however, it is very difficult to make a cleansing cream without any chemicals. I was starting to realize why so many of our everyday products had chemicals, it was necessary for the production of most of them. But I wanted to stay true to my brand, my message and what I like to call out promise to skin “NO NASTIES”. So, after two years of experimenting with formulas and testing them out on myself, friends and family I finally found the formula that worked for me and my brand. There is always the initial fear of anyone starting their own business and putting themselves out here I would have to say that was another obstacle to overcome especially during a worldwide pandemic (we launched October 1st 2020).
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most proud of KoKo Moon by Danielle Marie, it was launched during a pandemic, it is being carried in 4 different retail locations in Jamaica and is thriving amongst its social community. I am known for my creativity, I did all the graphics, website and design for my brand and I am also known for painting in my free time. What sets me apart from others is my patience and creativity to focus on my goals and come up innovative ways to solve them that others might have looked over.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
There will definitely be additions to the skin care line and I do want to get the company more involved with giving back. I would also love to focus on the fact that great skin also comes from what you eat and that nutrition is important. I want to deliver an overall package of self-confidence from the inside out, both physically, mentally and emotionally for women of all ages.
