Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Huffman.
Ashley, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I developed a taste for art while working in the Finance industry. It was an immediate attraction. High end art can be a wonderful investment, after all I was working as an equities trader for a Wall Street bank. After attending auctions at Sotheby’s, my attraction grew within the art world, particularly textiles. I decided to turn my own art into beautiful handwoven area rugs. Along the way I discovered the increasing demand of wholesale custom rugs needed by the trade, so there I started my company. Custom Couture Rugs wholesales custom size and uniquely designed rugs in Miami, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Paris.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We create beautiful rugs through the ancient Tibetan art of handweaving rugs on looms, a method that’s been used for thousands of years. It is a collaboration of art and the art of weaving, and the number of hands involved in the weaving of the art and providing jobs for people in the foothills of Tibet. We work with companies and artists from around the world to bring artwork to life. Sotheby’s, brings art from around the world. We collaborate with artists and interior designers from all different walks of life and turn their artwork and vision into a reality.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Passion and perseverance defines what is essential to be successful as an artist. This is not as black and white as working for a Wall Street Bank, however this passion fulfills my soul with creativity and balance.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Wow! That is a really tough question, because we are constantly expanding and working all around the world. Many hotels including the JW Marriot, The Delano (Miami), a list of many boutique hotels worldwide. My all-time favorite is a former residence of Elizabeth Taylor that is a building entirely made of coral stone, a rare find. We work with anyone wanting to transform their art into a woven masterpiece. We can be found in many boutique stores that sell to the design trade in Miami, NYC, LA, and Paris.
