Today we’d like to introduce you to Perro Negro.
Perro Negro is a rock and roll band from South Florida. The band started as a recording project with me, Omar (guitar, vocals), and Marcio Gemelli (drummer), and a friend Erick Claux in bass around 2009-2010. Then Erick moved out of town, and we recruit our current bass player Miguel Barreto, and this line up has been playing around South Florida in the last few years.
We are all immigrants from South America, and we are aware of how the diversity of Miami have an impact in the arts and culture all around, and we are thrilled to be part of this community of creators. Being in a rock and roll band for us is a lifestyle, something we like to do and at the same time its something that comes natural to us, because we all grew listening to and loving rock and roll music.
Having a rock band in Miami it’s not easy because you don’t get paid that much and there’s not too much places to play, but in the last few years things have changed, and there’s a rock scene thats been boiling over the years through now.
We are recording our first album at The Shack North with Ferny Coipel of Humbert, and we can’t wait to finish it and release to all of you guys
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
We are a three-piece band and we play rock and roll music with influences from old school punk and proto-punk, hard rock, garage rock and alternative from the 80 and 90s. Why we do it? Not for the money for sure, lo, just because we enjoy doing it. It’s cool, liberating, entertaining and we are musicians, we simply can’t live without playing music, for us it doesn’t matter if we make money, got popular, etc…we just love writing songs, crafting the songs, practice, playing live and recording. We are inspired by all things around us, the great bands that we love, people in and out of our lives. Rock and roll inspire rock and rollers. We hope that people take the fun from us the lust for life. Life can suck sometimes, but you have that little thing that is yours, your own and make you feel good no matter what, and you can do it your way — Thats rock and roll.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Do what you feel is right, keep doing it, the reward is just doing it for the sake of it.
